BUILD THREAD “The Juggernaut”

I just noticed something Donovan that I overlooked from other pictures you have posted of your build. There are no rear view mirrors on the doors! Do you have plans to install mirrors or will you forgo them? As always, inspiring work as always my friend.

Kevin,
Thanks for checking back and going over the build thread again!

I thought I remembered this question being posed to me once before on here, so I thought I'd go back thru the thread and find where it was asked. To be honest, I didn't remember how I answered it, so I cut and pasted the question and response to here for you.
I found it on page 15, post #142. Geo's66 asked:

with this being a driver, I am interested in the side mirror removal? It's crazy beautiful, just wanted to hear your thoughts on that one. Thanks for posting all of this!

My response was:
"Thanks Geo's.
I'll be the first to admit, not all the modifications on the car are 100% legal.
If I get pulled over and the officer is sharp enough to notice that things like the side mirrors and marker lights are missing, I'll likely get a ticket or at the very least a stern talking to.
Lol
I'm going to operate under the "it's easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission" policy for the luxury of having clean lines on the car.

As far as the functionality side of things is concerned, this car was and will continue to be serious enough that it will command my full attention at all times when behind the wheel. So for me to have to do full shoulder checks in place of missing outside mirrors is really not an issue. I shaved the mirrors when I built the car the first time, and really didn't find it that much of an inconvenience."

I hope this answers your question for you. There's also a pretty in depth write up and lots of pics from the door and fender work on page 14, starting with post #137 if you want to find out more about what all was done.

Thanks,
Donovan

After awhile people going forget about doing a 442 Clone, they going to start doing a Juggernaut Clone! Love you build!
Thank you Carlows!
I'm very flattered by your kind comments. It's you guys that help keep me inspired, motivated, and constantly strive to do the next step better than the one before it.
🙂

Just as a quick update, I'm currently hard at work on the headlight bezel modifications.
The passenger side one is about 50% done as I write this, but unfortunately I haven't taken any pics yet. I'm still perfecting and refining the process on this one, and will take all the pics step by step as I go for my write up when I do the drivers side one.
I should hopefully have something for you guys in another week or so.
🙂

I hope you never run into some Wyatt Earp type with a chip on his shoulder- I think they have authority to keep you off the road until a full safety is done and passed. Odds are slim but it has happened.

Regardless, I think you're certainly on track style wise, and even if pressed to you would come up with something genius to appease the powers that be and end up enhancing the overall esthetic anyways!

As much as I like your car and the craftsmanship you put into it I would personally never shave side mirrors or side marker lights for a street driven car, for me it is a safety issue since I want to see everyone around me and be seen by everyone around me.
If you get in an emergency stop situation where you have to change lanes I think having to do a "full shoulder check" would be out of the question. As always this is only my opinion.

You both have valid and credible points.

Definitely food for thought. However, as I said before, it's a risk I'm willing to take, and the other thing is, up until it's time to paint, nothing's set in stone yet either.

To be honest, I've been considering reinstalling side marker lights, but I just haven't found the "right" ones yet. If I do, they'll look nothing like the ugly stock ones, so shaving those would've been done irregardless.

As far as the mirrors are concerned, the passenger side one was an option in this year, so the law can't really do anything about me not having one there. The one on the driver's side however, that's another story...

Like I said, nothing's totally set in stone until it's in paint anyways. I'll be keeping my eyes peeled and options open up until that point.

I've seen many custom cars without side mirrors. You gotta admit, side mirrors are functional but they look shitty compared to a nice clean shaven look.. I was almost considering going without, especially after welding up all the mounting holes. It is a cleaner look without...but I ended up going with retro style mirrors.

Donovan, I'm sure down the road if you decide to add mirrors to the car, you'll choose discreetly styled mirrors to go with the decor.
If the car isn't going to be a daily driver, then WTF.

The way I look at it..it's your ride and your vision as to how you perceive the car to look . So far, I very much like what you've done with all your styling ideas and innovations.

Well put, and thank you Jack. Although I do understand the other members points. From a legal and safety standpoint, I really SHOULD have some sort of side mirror(s).

All this talk about adding mirrors back on has me looking around at options. I think I've found just the ticket for the car...
