Man, you have luck like mine. This Regal has been fighting you the whole time. Reminds me of my '88 GMC K1500. I have a 12 page thread of the problems I've had with it recently. https://gbodyforum.com/threads/with-luck-like-this.61305/page-12

Not mad, just disappointed. That's not a bad way to think. It sucks when your car breaks but you seem to have the gearhead mentality and fix it yourself. Did you say you are 18 years old? If you are, you've got a pretty good bit of automotive knowledge from what I've seen on the forum. Have you considered tech school? You're young, now is a good time to learn a trade.

Good luck on getting your Regal back on the road soon and good luck finding some money making opportunities. Have you considered putting an ad on Craigslist to do work on peoples cars that you know that you can do? There's lots of ways to make money.

I'm with 50 - fix it. I think you have learned a few things along the way, put them in place. You can get a crank kit for about $200.00, I personally would buy a new cast steel crank (under $200) plus the price of bearings. Simple digital calipers from Harbor freight ($15) will let you know if the rod is in spec & round (probably not). Worst case new rod or re-size

Plus there is the issue that he might end up liking the SBC with it's ridiculous amount of aftermarket support and inexpensive parts.

Thanks man. Yeah, I'm 18. 19 this September. And yes actually, I did put an add out on craigslist a few weeks ago. Just Sunday I helped a guy with his '73 Grandville. VC gaskets, carb installation, small stuff like that. It runs pretty damn good. Starts and idles like a new car from '73. Pontiac 400. Everyone I know just throws something away when it breaks. All my friends told me to junk my regal and get something else when the V6 blew up. I didn't do it then, I didn't do it when the transmission blew up, and I'm sure as hell not gonna do it now. I have really considered tech school, but I think that's a bit out of reach right now. Local community college has a two year course to get ASE certified and it cost 7700 a year. With my last job I only made 7300 for that whole year. Gotta get a steady job first then everything else falls into place. I'm gonna be out of highschool this summer, Class of 2017, and I'll be able to get a full time job, hopefully where my dad works making $17 bucks an hour.
