I'm looking for a roller cam to drop in and I have to change the valve springs on my vortec heads to use a higher lift cam. I came across 062 vortec heads that have been ported and upgraded to 202 int.160 exh stainless steel valves with upgraded springs and seals to run with 540 lift cams. The heads have not been on a engine since the work, he's changed direction with his project and he's asking $775. They need to be ported tho since there are articles talking about putting in the larger valves can mess up the heads if they are not ported.

It'd cost me over $300 for the beehive springs kit and then I have to put the springs in and I end up with a head with miles on it and stock valves. I can sell the vortecs that I have so the upgrade seems to be worth it if the heads check out. I had a game plan now these heads have made me go hmmmmm. I think I'll grab them tho if they do check out to be what he says they are.

I would definatley sell the ones you have now and do the upgrade. I was in the market for vortecs but I gave up awhile ago to focus on bodywork but they are definatley on the shopping list for my 400 when I get custom engine building class. I had a chance to get a set and the serp setup for $50 from a truck that was in a flood but I wasnt quick enough 🙁

I've heard that upgrading to 2.02 and 1.60 are not the best for optimal performance on a stock casting. If I was gonna get some with 2.02's and 1.60's, I think I would get some bare casting vortec 185 Patriots and assemble them with what you want. I'm thinking that you would still have about the same money involved with more potential and could still sale the ones you already have. Hope this helps.

I have read about the issues with the larger valves upsetting the flow and the porting that needs to be done with the larger valves to correct the flow. The porting is supposed to be done so I have to take a good look at these heads to make sure that it was all done. I wasn't even looking for other heads when I came across these. If they don't check out I'll just change the springs on mine. I'm happy with the power I have now and I'm going with a roller cam which should give me a bit more fuel economy with little better performance. It's a daily driver in the summer so I have to balance the cost of fuel and pleasure

ehh if it dont end up how u want shoot for some nice aluminum heads

I'll stick with my heads if they don't work out. The vortec heads I have work good but if I can basically trade up I will. The difference between my heads and the upgraded heads is basically the cost of the springs I have to get for my heads. The work I already have planned is I need to upgrade my T5 transmission , a windage tray and pump baffle to install, need a roller cam to toss in and I'm getting the EZ EFI set up if my budget allows..I figure a day to build and install the transmission and a weekend to R & R the engine and do the work I need to do.
