I hav a 87 MC SS. I pulled the intake and carb for an edelbrock 650 and a RPM Perfromer. I lost sooo much power to the pedal. When I stomp the gas it had no power. So i thought it was the distributer bein ra by the computer or maybe the thrttle position sensor so I put a HEI street fire in and th TCI lock up kit wit a toggle a switch. I did all that and still dont have th problem fixed. I feel like Im not getting enough fuel pressure to the carb or maybe my timing... CAN ANYONE HELP???

THANKS IN ADVANCE

You got to have all that stuff calibrated now someone with a timing light but your not going to be setting it to stock timing any more. the idle mixture screws on the edelbrock do make a difference from like o to 40. Now I know I am going to get flamed for this but This is for testing purposes only to get a better understanding of the problems start the car turn the distributor to the point in which you get the highest idle then back off just a smidget. Now lightly screw the idle screws on that edelbrock all the way in then go 1 and 1/4 turns out so 360 plus 90 degrees then go in or out 1/8 turns until you get the highest idle now set your idle down where it is supposed to be and see if that works if it gets alot better you have some tuning issues and need to have the car setup by someone who knows what they are doing.

I am just taking a guess that the rest of the Monte is stock?

If so you bought the wrong intake.

You should have bought a Performer NOT a RPM Performer

It could be timing or maybe the carb or maybe the intake. Just depends really

Everything is stock except the intake carb distributer and exhaust system, I have a set of 350 heads to put on just to help the flow of things. But sorry that was a typo. I looked at the box this morning and it was just the performer spread bore intake.

Ok I will try that.. I have never been good at timing. I just have to find someone who knows how to time/tune it. Just a question when you say tuning issues your referring to the timing problem right :?:

you have a spread bore intake and a square bore carb. Do you have an adapter plate?

Also make sure your throtle linkage is not getting hung up on anything.

You may be flooring the gas, but the carb is not opening the venturi completely.

And keep in mind there nothing like a set of Q-jet secondarys opening up to plant your azz into the seat!!!!!!

I wouldn't say plate... more like a gasket. Should it be a plate?
and when the Q-JEt was on it ran great... loud and powerful now ... just sad faces all around. it idels and revs great tho soon as it hits drive and i mash the pedal it barely gets power

That's timing then, it's either to far advanced or needs retarded I'm not forsure I've had that happen before and it was just timing, it would rev up great in the driveway but was soon as you put in in drive it wood just run like crap and had know power, it almost felt like the carb was just to big, do you have a timing light? We can help you out if you do and if you don't we can still help with it lol
