I ran across a nice tilt steering column but the head was loose. I thought it would be an easy fix since it's usually the 4 screws deep inside that get loose. I was wrong, it was the pivot pins. One actually fell out as I was digging down to them. Has anyone ever salvaged a column somehow by fixing these? Epoxy them in? Oversize? Otherwise this nice column is junk.

Clamp them in a vise and stake them with a chisel ( bang a nick in it with a sharp chisel)

This guy " http://www.zr1specialist.com/HAT%20Web/ ... %20pin.htm" claims staking them in is a temporary fix and will fail later, but then he's trying to sell a $50 fix. Maybe I can stake them AND Marine-Tex them in. I wouldn't bother if there were any columns for sale locally. I only found one and the key is missing for $75.

OK this is weird. When I put the pin back in to see how loose it really was, I couldn't get it out without the removal tool. Hmmm. So I cleaned the area up, applied Marine-Tex, pounded the pin in, staked it, then covered it in more Marine-Tex. It better not fall out again!
