Since the cam gear is sheared off, it would probably be a good idea to pull the engine and take it apart to clean everything and look for damage. You never know if the metal from the cam gear will ruin other parts of the engine. You might get away with just putting a new cam in, but it is still a big risk.

Pretty much what it comes down to is if you want to keep the same engine or put different one in. If you are going to do it the proper way and take apart the engine to inspect it, either route you take it will not be much of a difference time wise. It just depends on how much money you want to put in it.

it's a 260, if it comes out - it's getting sold as scrap metal and a 350 goes in. I hardly think the engine is worth a cam install either

OLDS 350 OR 455

The olds 350 and the 260 are the same by looks but internals are different the 350 is more like the 403 the cranks intermix and so fourth if you really want to go dollar for horse power the 350 is a good strong option to go because the forged pistons still cheeper plus real good high rpm motor (known out of experience) you should do restrictive work to the main journals though if interested I have the older block better casting plus nodular crank I also have one sitting around with extra parts you can buy real cheep cheeper than the new pistons. I also have the "F" style 455 with lightweighted nodular crank if intereseted. Plus intakes headders big tube etc.

Re: OLDS 350 OR 455

well I have been looking around for a running 350. I really don't want to go through a rebuild right now nor do I have a 2nd vehicle in which to pick up parts. I'm going to make some calls within the locaol Olds club and see what I can source local. Plus I probably need to find a better place to take the car to work on and will need some help. I personally have never done and engine swap and can imagine doing so without a couple guys to help guide the engine in is just begging for trouble. I should also probably look for my Hurst V-matic and think about putting that 200-4r I have laying around (it's out of that 86 in the signature, was rebuilt to GNX specs) in at the sametime.

Time for a 455!

it's my only car and since it commutes ... we can rule out big blocks. A 350 was always in the plans.
