A NEW timing issue

I would check and make sure that the black bushing is seated and installed properly in the distributor and has full movement.
The springs only change how fast or slow timing comes in not how much.

I should also mention that it seemed like my locked out distributor was losing some timing higher up in the rpm as well (dropping a bit from the locked out 35-36), but I attributed that to the other issues I had with the distributor gear...maybe not?

Did you say you had some sort of Cam button installed?

without loosening the dist put a stiffer spring in then check your base timing if it lost some of the 18 deg you had the weights were opening at idle

i ran into that once,i was running an aftermarket bushing that offered 10 degrees(i was alllllll fired up with this)it was machine flat on the sides.it still hung up.i checked the timing after and it wasn't advancing as it was stuck.i replaced it with the 14 degree bushing and it took all the timing after that.

Do not trust the spacers and springs. Check the timing at every rpm. 1000, 1250, 1500, 1750, 2000 and write it down. Even graph it.

You will see 2 things. 1. How far apart the timing is between initial and full. 2. What rpm the change happens at.
