Timing curve

X2 on all suggestions given. Try this also, lock the advance closed, (use whatever works and allows the mechanism to spin freely) Set the timing where you want it, then unlock it with the lightest springs and see what you have. Try all the springs til you get what you want. If it doesn't work, then you have to try another spring kit because the timing is set. Just another way to try.
I hope this helps.

At 1000rpm its likely the advance starting to come in. Try it at 800-900 and watch it. You will see the advance start in at 1000-1100 rpm.

Take those weights out and chuck em. Same with the cam. Re install the original weights and cam with the numbers UP. Put a heavy spring on one pin and a medium one on the other. Than check yer initial, and yer total. If yer initial timing is fine and the total needs to be advanced, don't move the distributor, remove the med. spring and install the light one. Check an see where yer at. It takes some playing around with.. My buddy had the same re-curve kit and I could never get it dialed in. The only parts that are worth using in those kits are the springs.

X2 on that!

Weights move freely no sticking. I did end up dropping the idle to 900 while setting initial timing and that solved some of the problem, i'm using the medium set, which is labeled as "super quick" . I double checked my initial by swapping back to the heavy set, to make sure i wasn't off. I don't have the factory weights, and this dizzy was "new" from a local autozone so i wouldn't trust the old weights to be good anyhow. After alittle tuning i think i've got her dialed in good, but i cannot use the LIGHT set, aside from being into the advance/idle, the engine doesn't run right with them and builds up heat allot quicker. Normally she holds a 185-190 degrees in traffic, she was sitting at 205-210 degrees with the light springs.

I am confused about one thing though, whats the deal with these "limiter bushings" that come with the kit? i used the ones that fit with no resistance and no play.

If these weights aren't any good, what IS a good set to buy?? I bought Moroso the first time because they usually have pretty good stuff..

The MSD 85551 distributor I use has the option of different diameter bushings to limit the advance. The largest gives you the smallest advance and the smallest bushing allows the most advance. Not every distributor has that adjustment.
