Hi everyone,

So my new house has a very steep driveway and I try to always back my Olds into the garage. The engine has plenty of power in the driver gears and seems to be ok in reverse on flat streets. When I try to accelerate up the drive from a stop the car simply won’t do it. The engine tries but the power won’t get down to the pavement. Where should I start?

I have a th250 trans that was completely rebuilt about 5yrs ago and has less than 10k miles on it. I have never pulled apart the diff though.....

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It’s a 305, th-250 trans with about 10k miles. Driveway fairly steep but not unreasonable I have no clue the grade. It should be able to do it no problem though. My Toyota Sienna can do it no problem LOL The car does not spin the tires it simply bogs down and won’t go

Back a load of gravel up the driveway in a dump truck, and make a turn around spot. Or, just pull the car in. Or, put some 3.42s out back.

is it a Canadian 305 or an Olds 307?

There can be a variety of problems, the rear end shouldn't be one of them. Since this started with the steep driveway (how steep) I would make sure you have enough trans fluid in the pan.

I want to see a pick of the driveway taken on a day with no low cloud cover so I can see the top of it....

Hahahahaha it’s not super impressive trust me. So I think it may be a problem with the torque converter. I went into a dirt lot to see if the the tires would spin out real good and all I got was a short tire spin and then some straight ahead small divots.
