Oh I have gotten plenty of go f yourself replies when I have made offers haha. When I bought that 84 I just wanted the engine. I offered the guy 200 dollars for it 😀 He said no haha. The 79 was for sale forever across from my high school. I believe he had 1500 written on the window which was still reasonable. All I had was 900 cash and he took it. The 84 took some work to get shiny. The paint was faded. The interior was missing a couple things but I had some extra pieces from another 84 that I had that was a huge piece of crap but had a decent interior. It's just a matter of the right time and right place. Neither car was on craigslist or any ads. I just saw them sitting. Those are the ones to look for. There was a 79 Monte Carlo with a damn nice body for sale not too long ago. No engine or transmission but clean body and frame for 700 bucks. I just have no money or that would have been in my drive way. The price of scrap has pushed a lot of them up. Why take 400 bucks for something when you can just run it across the scales for that? A lot of people think that a Michigan car has to be rotted out and don't really look at them. Some are but obviously you can check it out and see. The junk 84 I bought had no floor pans, rotted frame, gas tank was hanging by the filler neck, just a huge piece of crap but it had a running olds 350 with headers and a good interior. I paid 300. I figured that was worth it for the engine, headers, and interior pieces. When I sold the 84 in the picture I pulled the motor and sold it as a rolling chassis. I got a 1k for the roller. It took about two weeks to get rid of it when I listed it in auto rv. Most people came out and offered way less but I knew I had a rust free t top car and the shell in my opinion was worth a grand. Finally a guy showed up and didnt try to haggle just jumped all over it and took it home. At the time I added a posi 7.5 rear end, bm ratchet shifter, autometer tach, some bucket seats out of a firebird and dual exhaust with headers. All that went with it. So the guy got some extras. To me that was simply a fair deal for the car. I think a lot of people get hung up on making a lot of money back on a car they buy. I easily could of found some running 307 and put it in the car and asked 3k. I'm not greedy and didn't feel like holding on to the car for a year so I didn't. Instead I just about broke even when you add in the stuff I added to the car. I made out a couple hundred bucks ahead and kept the 455. Everything I bought was used. It's just all in what you make of it and what your willing to spend.

I think $2000 is a fair amount. To be honest I dont see him coming back at tax time though.

That's expected though I guess when you "insult" someone on prices.
I have almost 6000 into this car and have receipts to show and I was only asking 2500 for it but he said 2000 and I said yeah.
But That's so nice, i have actually drove out by country side places where there is nothing around but land and saw a few cars for sale not bad and prices were decent I think I might do that is I sell this car.
But That's what I pretty much am doing I put all this into and made it run and nice, now I am just trying to get back some money so I can move on and get a better one without work needed.
I would love to have that ttop cutlass of yours, I don't find many on cl or drive around here with Ttops like no one out here have them.
So there pretty hard to find.
I think you did great on both cars, In my opinion you did amazingly.

A part of me thinks he wont either but he sounded very serious and it sounded promising.
But again I am not holding my breath.
But if he doesn't I think I am just going to keep it get an engine rebuild and paint it all on tax time.
Then try to sell it or keep it as my baby.

If your going to rebuild the engine or do a bunch more work to it dont expect it to increase the value to what you have in it. In other words don't expect to get the 2k it cost to rebuild your engine back. If you rebuild it just keep it. And also if your gonna rebuild look into a new engine from GM. Under 2k you can get a factory new engine from GM with a warranty that makes 290hp.

why do you need to rebuild the engine?...if you really need an engine you can get good running engine for less than the cost of rebuilding one...and like Chris said don't expect to get your money back out of the engine and paint job. I have alot more money in my car than I could sell it for but I'm not interested in selling..it's not an investment, it's a hobby

That's what I am pretty much saying. If no one gets it before tax time I am keeping and just getting everything done and making it my pride and joy my baby, haha.

That is a very very good idea, Like getting a new or rebuilt 350 rocket.
Where can I go to check out gm engines, is there a website or anything?

Well your probably not going to get a new Oldsmobile engine. There are a couple companies that build crate engine oldsmobiles but they are pricey. If you wanted to stay with chevy engines then you can just go check out summit racing or jegs. Both of those sites have good deals on the GM crate 350's. There are other vendors I'm sure that may or may not be able to beat their prices. Then you have to plan on what you want though. If you want to go back to an Oldsmobile engine then your probably better off buying a nice running 350 olds someone has for sale that you can hear run and check oil pressure and general condition of the engine. Or keep what you have and just tune it all in and learn on it.

I don't need one necessarily, Pretty much just for viewing purposes, make it look a little nicer, there is gunk on it now and paint chipping.
Pretty much would just love to take it out re paint it and get a few new parts for it.
Oh yeah I would never even think about getting more cause I know I wouldn't so no point in trying.
That's very true, That's why I work on my car daily always wash it and take care of it.
The truth is I have had this car a year now and have only gotten to drive it a month or so.
I haven't driven this car nothing but 50 miles since I got it, It sits in the garage and never moves really.
So for me to constantly put money into and do all this maintenance on a car that I cant even drive and I have 6 months insurance up to date tags.
I have had insurance on this car for 1 year, and about to get 6 months more in February when this 6 months is over.
But I still take care of this car no matter what and keep in mind this is mine and my families only car, we have no other form of transportation this is our only car.
So for a year now when we had doctors appointments and hospital visits I have to borrow my sisters or moms car to drive us there.
I do think of it as a hobby I truly do and I am happy with what I have accomplished with this car, even though its not running, i have made it better from when I first got it.

But I wouldn't want more out of it honestly, just pretty much trying to get anything out of it haha.

I wouldn't mind it being "new" just running and driving good.
I just want a all olds car, I just truly love complete cars with all the same parts.
But I will definitely check them out when taxes come.
Yeah I do need to learn a bit more about all types of engines, I pretty much got stuff down but way off from where I want to be.
But I appreciate all of this.
