David if you don't have any gear head friends then I would look to join a car club or something. Just so you can get some hands on experience and some monkey see, monkey do action going on. It helps, A LOT. I am one of those people anyway, I can't read out of a book and learn too well. I have to actually do it to know it. I have been messing with cars since about the age of 14 or 15 so I have a few years of experience haha. 12 years from now you will know this sh*t like the back of your hand. You will remember firing orders, you will know torque specs for several different engines. In reality though it won't take you that long to get the basics down. Just do not give up on what you are doing. In retrospect maybe selling your car is the wrong thing to do. Maybe you should just keep it and use it as your learning car. Maybe use your taxes to buy a little 4 banger commuter car for reliable transportation. Keep the g body and the engine you have and just learn to tear it apart, tune it, collect some tools you learn you will use a bunch, etc. There also might be some adult education places around you that do automotive. I went to one for welding. I haven't welded anything in years but with the core concepts I learned there about 7 years ago I bet I could get back into the swing of it after a couple hours. So that might be an alternative to a car club.

See I have tried getting into the Oldsmobile car club here and they never wrote back or anything.
I don't know how to start looking, like where to look and what to say exactly.
We don't have any car shows around here at all, we have one, once a year that's it really.
So with only one a year its hard to figure out where people are and where the clubs have their little get-to-gethers.
But that's what me and the wife were actually talking about s getting a little 4 door and keeping mine cause we don't think it will sell.
also my wife want's more than we can get for the car, Like she really want's what she want's out of it and wont take less.
So its rough trying to sell when shes talking about I wont take less than this cause we have this in it.
But I know shes only looking out for what's best.

Ya I know how it goes wanting to get your money back but it rarely happens. People just do not care about you blood and sweat that goes into the car. I have to be honest when I buy something I could care less as well. I've had people tell me they have x amount of dollars into a car and I tell them well that sucks but in this market it is only worth x. If I added up the modifications done to my formula I would have an easy 1500 bucks just into mods but I can't add that in there. The exhaust alone cost near a thousand bucks. It might help sell the car if I ever did sell it, its kind of my baby at the moment so that won't happen anytime soon but it won't add any special value to it. It's why you see a gbody with a 400hp 383 in it going for 500 more than a comparable g body with a stock engine. Nobody cares the guy spend 3500 on the engine. So yea it might be worth keeping your car if you cannot get 2k out of it. Most people will never make money on a car unless they get them very very cheap and do the minimuim to make them marketable.

Yeah exactly I tell her this. But i understand she doesn't want the money to be gone fro nothing you know.
But I understand cause when I look at a car I usually don't care either nor does she.
But If I cant that's what I'm going to do is keep it, as my baby and get a daily on tax time.
make it my learning car and cruising car on nice days.

Yeah I think there might be a guy close to me hes a bit away about 3 hours or so, But I cant make it all the way up there.
That's always good Taxes are so awesome to get, cause at the end of the year you get this huge amount back and that covers whatever expense you gotta pay for or anything broken you gotta fix.

if you have any circle tracks in your area get onto their website and offer your help. They'll be a team that will get you on board and they'll be thankful for the help. You'll learn about all the aspects of a car, maybe not the internals of the engine since alot of tracks have sealed crate engine rules. There's still alot of metrics (G body) out there racing around tracks
