I’ve got to replace my 200r4 in my 442. I’m torn between 700r4 and a th400. I’d like to have some thoughts on this move.
I also need some help on putting the speedo gears before installation
Thanks

I'm planning to use a 200-4R in my wagon project behind a very mild shortblock. I've talked to my trusted local transmission rebuilder (who happens to be my customer) and he says they work just fine if built properly. My challenge now is coming up with a core for him to build.

There was a 700r4 in my 2 door when I got it (and I since replaced with a rebuilt 700r4). I don't have any real miles on it yet, but I'm sure I'll like that transmission too. It's just way eaiser to put a 200-4r where a 350 turbo was..even more easy if you already have the 200-4r.

I've been all worked up about HAVING to have overdrive. But depending on how you use the car it really may not be that important. In the future, if it's a car that I don't realistically plan on doing long road trips / touring in...I would be fine with a non overdrive transmission.

The 442 200 4R was a better transmission than the run of the mill 200 4R. I would get it rebuilt if I were you

How much highway driving do you do? I bought my car with a TH350 and 3.73 rear gears. The car ran about 3500rpms at 65 mph. I switched to the 200r4 and now run about 2200 at 65mph. It's so much nicer. Also if I remember correctly there is a difference in the speedo drive gears between the BOP and Chevy transmission. I know I couldn't get the correct speedo gear for the BOP th350 that was in my car when I bought it.

Yeah, stick with the 200-4R.

Considered getting one mail order? Lots of shops offer rebuilding services.

what about putting in a th350 for now to get the car mobile again and that'll give you some time to figure out what to do with the 200 4R
