You can use some transmission cooler hose if needed as well. It will look pieced together but it will work if you don't want to have to bend the metal lines a whole lot. Just make sure you file off the sharp edges of metal line before you slide a hose and clamp over. You shouldn't have much of a problem using the size Ritter said to use though. Ive replaced transmission lines in a couple of g bodies but they were mostly gutted under the hood and I didn't care of it was ran nicely, as long as it worked and wasn't to hill billy looking. Theres a limit on the hill billy for me haha.
 
tubing... you have some options... There is the coated stuff that RITTER mentioned. I believe there is also stainless, but it's quite pricey and tough to bend/do-it-youself, and there's the cheap standard stuff...

I say coated line for-the-win... only a few cents more than standard line, but much longer lasting and durable.

There are many bending tools out there, many types as well... buy one you feel comfortable with, as bending larger lines like 5/16" can be a task. Most are around $20.

Flaring tools... you will need a kit. Most retail for around $80, all the way to $200-300 for the hydraulic pump action ones. I didn't want to buy the kit, but luckily most shops around here let you rent one out... you pay full price, then they refund you when returned.

Total cost of my lines was around $50 (including bender and borrowed a flare kit)... Fittings came around $5 (for a pack of 4)

as mentioned... patience is key... buy yourself a whole roll of line (about $26), as you might go thru alot from test-fit/trial-error
 
as CHRIS.O mentioned, you also have the option of pressure hose...

I am using transmission line hose on my car right now. I cut the steel lines coming off the transmission, about 2" after the fittings, took off the burrs, then bubble flared the ends and clamped on some 5/16" pressure hose.

Make sure it's pressure hose, usually fuel pressure line or hydraulic type... Ordinary rubber hose will not hold the pressure and may corrode from the trans oil detergents.

mine seems to work well, no leaks, and I race on the transmission and abuse it alot.

you need to cut and flare if its too long...or else loop it around a few times right before the radiator? you will never get the exact right length line.
 
alot to think about. I want to do it right the first time and not worry about it. You haven't had problems going through tech inspection with the hoses? That would be way easier since I plan on taking the engine out about 5 more times. 😀
 
tech inspection at drag strip? last time i went (years ago) i remember no more than 6" of rubber fuel line, but im not sure if it pertains to all fluid lines...

If thats true, I guess I'll never be able to run my car at the drag strip ... I have rubber fuel line from the tank to the engine :|
 
I can see why they'd have that rule to try to prevent transmission fluid ending up on the track...

...fuel line isn't even supposed to be used for transmission fluid lines. You have to use transmission cooler hose :idea: Transmission fluid will eat through fuel line in no time :!: Another option, something I will do eventually, is have hydraulic lines made up for my transmission cooler lines :twisted: The ends are pressed on at 4000 PSI and the hose handles 3000 PSI. A little pricey though :?
