Gentlemen, the 800 series boxes came in various cars. They are the better/ stronger unit between the 605 and 800 series boxes. However, not all 800 series boxes are quick ratio boxes. Cars generally equipped with F41 suspension...Buick GN T-Type cars, Monte Carlo SS, Olds 442, H/O, IROC, Z28, and GTA F-body cars all were equipped with the closer ratio box. Standard Cutlass', Monte Carlo , Malibus, El Caminos, and Pontiacs were probably equipped with the standard ratio box unless ordered with the F41 suspension package.

Is there any way do tell if it's q quick ratio box?

Unfortunately, they look alike on the outside. The true test would be to install it in the car and check how many turns from lock to lock. Generally they're 2 1/2 to 2 3/4 turns of the wheel.
They do come with a two letter ink, or painted designation on the box indicating what car they're from, but in most cases the designation is worn off.
So, unless you know what the box is out of, you can't be certain otherwise.

Cool, thanks for the help for both of us!! Mine is oem to my 87 supreme split bench so prolly not the better of the 2, but i will check and sure vera will as well. Thanks again!!!

You're more than welcome. I'm glad I can offer some constructive input. The standard ratio boxes are more like 3-turns or so from lock to lock. There is a noticeable difference in the quick ratio unit.
Believe it or not, I had my Monte SS box in my car for approx. 15 yrs, and I like it a lot.

Nothing much to report. Busy with work. I did put the front springs in the washer. .pretty damn clean.

Sorry guys, really nothing to report. Still cleaning/painting parts. Family came to visit so nothing much done. I am going to swap in the GN rear end this weekend. Ill be alone. I was wondering what tricks, tips, and advice you have for a safe and smooth swap..Thanks in advance guys!

Eh some of the parts showed up. Scrounged up some ebay deals for my frond end suspension parts. So far around 100 bucks. For energy suspension front end bushings both upper and lower, bump stops upper and lower, front sway bar bushings, Russell brake lines front, and some upper and lower made in the good ol US of A Moog ball joints. (Not here yet)

OK this weekend I put in the posi rear end. It's as dry as a whistle. Pro's please chime in! What kind of lube plus additives have you used. Dude that sold it to me said to get some Ford stuff. Supposedly pure whales oil?

I heard that! Even bagging it all i have still spent time scratching my head trying to find stuff lol! I had to put new qp's, roof skin, rockers due to outdoor KY life. But this was as of july before 10yr old motor died but hope to have it to body and paint soon. Im just a broke family man tryin to build a clean muscle car! Its all worth the hard work for sure!
