Undercarraige Painting?

Yep I'm still around, lol. Just don't post as often as my car has been sitting until recently. I think with the rust inhibitor which I've used before, I'll be okay. Its brush on, water-based, and neutralizes rust and dries to a hard shell-like finish which is a primer and can be readily painted. The car isn't going to see any weather anyway so i think I'll be okay. Cost about $100 a gallon so it's not cheap Autozone stuff. Its called State Chemical Defender II Rust Inhibitor. It is UV sensitive like POR15, maybe active ingredients are the same?

I sand blasted the under carriage completely. Then used Primer/Paint Dupont Centari White. I then undercoated areas where the body wraps the frame on the side rails and rear rails.

Best method is to sandblast the underbody clean, then paint it with epoxy primer and topcoat it with urethane, then high grade undercoating.

I'm gonna wire wheel mine and use truck bed coating. I snagged a few quarts for dirt cheap and that stuff is supper tough

I did the underside of my car in State Defender II rust inhibitor and then top coated in gloss black rustoleum, I also did my interior floor the same. It came out nice and since it's not directly exposed to UV light it should hold up well.

Joe, Where can I purchase this State chemical Defender II rust inhibitor ?

Garrie.

Gbarrie, I got the Rust Inhibitor through my work so Im not entirely sure where the General public can buy it. I will look to see if there is a phone number on the bottle and I'll pass it along to you. The stuff works great though, it dries to a hard "shell-like" finish that neutralizes the rust and readily accepts paint like a primer.

Gbarrie, I found out that State Chemical no longer makes this product, HOWEVER Eastwood makes the exact same product under the name "Eastwood's Rust Converter". It's the exact same product under a different name.

Well these past few weeks have brought on much more than anticipated with my Buick, but here is its current state-

Anyway, in the past few weeks the body has come off, the frame and underside have been patched in numerous places, and it's gonna be receiving a new body mounts, new gas tank and all new lines. Since I have such easy access to the underside of the car i figured I should paint and wire wheel it now. I am gonna use Rustoleum Gloss Black brush on paint. There is a lot of surface rust and scale that is underneath and while I can wire wheel most of it, some spots like in between the floor and inner rockers and the spare tire well and the inner quarters I cannot access with my angle grinder and wire wheel. My plan was just to knock off as much of the scale and loose paint as I can with a hand-held wire brush in these areas and paint over with the rustoleum. Also Some spots have a lot of factory undercoatin

hich is stuck on pretty good and just clogs the wire wheel. I was just going to paint over these spots. Does this sound okay? How clean does the underside have to be for me to paint?

Joe, doing this very thing... How did you get the body off and up on those stands? How is it supported in the rear? Thanks man
