Re: Stickers = Fast
okay, so planning another trip to the track in a few weeks. The Ottawa Buick crew is coming, so can't miss it!
... so here's a few things I'll do in hopes to improve my times.
- carb tuning. I'm sure it needs a rebuild to clean it up, but I want to take my time, so this will likely be done over the winter. But I will try tuning it at the track.
- timing. I haven't checked timing in a long time, and maybe it's slipped a little. I'll pull off the cap, clean up the rotors, weights, and contact points, and retime it. I might pull back a few degrees to get some HP in the top end.
- trans fluid. I noticed the other day that it was low. Then I remembered, shortly after the fluid change, I added a trans cooler, so some fluid was left in the rad. I'll top off the trans and that might help hit my target 102mph.
- linelock. I've had it sitting around, so I'll install it and do some proper burnouts on my slicks.
- driveshaft loop. JBreu is giving me his (what a guy, give him a hand)... I'll have to mod it for a 3" setback.
- weight reduction. I'll pull off my pushbar, the passenger seats, spare tire & jack, and maybe my hood. And with some hood clearance, I'll try to run a bigger air filter.
- suspension. I've been thinking of adding a bag on the right rear, but short on cash, so that will have to weight. I'll pull off my front sway bar. And I'm asking some friends if they can lend me smaller tires for the front.
other than that, it's all up to technique. Last time, on a few runs, I rev'd to 6500rpm hoping to help pull a better trap speed. But my cam starts to drop after 6000, so I think I will only rev to 6100 or 6200 this time... that seems to be the heighest power-band, and it seems to pull harder.
the clutches in my posi are starting to crap out, and I think it'll struggle on slicks. So hopefull the linelock takes care of that. I'll get someone to stage me so I can line up on some clean tarmac. Other than that, it's pretty easy on slicks... load the stall as high as I can, and foot hard to the floor on GREEN!
Any other suggestions guys?
