V4 engine?

My buddy had a 4 cylinder in his Tempest years ago. It wasn't the 153 that Chevy put in the Nova, it was a Pontiac engine that looked like a GTO 389..cut in half! It ran good and had a factory 4 bbl. Carb. on it ! However...it wasn't a V4.
I think Saab or Subaru had a horizontally opposed 4 cyl in the 70's (Like a BMW R80 motorcycle w/only 2 cylinders).

Yup, Saabs had some V4s and most Subarus were opposed (boxer) 4s. There were also flat 6s and some inline Subaru engines too.

Actually, horizontially opposed engines are pretty common. Subaru and porsche use them for most of their cars. Seen em elsewhere in performance cars
