V8 Chevette Daily Driver

Love all of the posts on the chevette. Really ingenious on how youre tackling each issue you run into. Personally, I like the velocity stack look tho - classic. Love to see that popping out of the hood with no scoop.
I'll bet you get some lookers when driving as well.

Thanks guys. I wouldn't say ingenious, just trying not to butcher stuff to bad. I'm sure there is better ways to do everything I did, but through some stroke of luck everything seems to be working.

I'm not happy with the headers(fitment and some leaks). So now that i've proven to myself I can make this thing work, I ordered some new header flanges. This spring I will start over with good pipe and make another set of headers for it. Also still considering a 5 lug swap for the front as well.

I like the air filter and hood scoop too.

Thanks man.

It's a tad premature but fuel mileage looks to be around 15mpg. Not bad but I was keeping it at or below 2200 rpm which probably helped.

You know you are going to cost me money if you keep posting about this car. I am going to have to go out and buy one of these damn things soon.

Got a little behind here. I've been driving it daily except for the random snow storms. I keep playing with the tune as well. I've been slowly richening it back up and even swapped springs to make the switch from cruise to power on the rods come in sooner(stiffest spring). All the while the car has gotten quicker and the mileage has stayed the same(15.75).
The biggest change to note is the route I drive. Normally it would be about 63 miles round trip all in interstate driving. But now at least half of that is city driving. Now get this mileage has gone up to 18 on my first count. Will be keeping an eye on that to get a more average number though, but it looks quite promising.
It goes to show I still need to get the revs down. Anyone have a good 2004r close to me they're willing to donate lol?

Alright I got in to a bit of a hurry with the mpg numbers on my last post. I forgot to take in to consideration that the actual miles driven changed as well. Still there was a small improvement in mpg. It's sitting just over 16 mpg.

However, the Chevette has been parked for now so that I can play with my new project that will have it's own thread started. There's a real strong likely hood that the Chevette will be sold off.

Well after being used for daily driver use again lately, the engine gave up. It never had much oil pressure and I was a little concerned the last time I checked the oil it seemed "thin". I think it had gas getting into the cranckcase. Anyway it has now developed a knock. I will most likely be parting ways with it and will put up a for sale ad here. If anyone is interested hit me up.

Well, I never sold or traded the car off, so now it's time to fix it. The worst part is the engine and transmission have to come out as one, so i'm gonna swap out to a 2004r while im at it. I've got the engine and transmission out now, and tore down the engine as well. Found cylinder 7 had managed to spin a rod bearing, taking the rod to work tomorrow to see if it needs resized.

Plenty of room, lol! Hard to believe the transmission was still attached.

And here's a shot after it was out. You can see how the motor mounts are and the massaging done to the firewall/trans tunnel area. It's a tight fit in the tunnel.
