Nice! Those dished pistons were begging for more compression. I'll bet your mileage goes up too. Kinda disappointed to see that Edelbrock carb though. Seems like they're either great or horrible when I deal with them. No in between. I was hoping that you'd get the right Qjet to solve your issued. Not really an option with a square bore manifold. Either way, it should be a great runner.

Thanks, the head gaskets I used only have a .015" compressed thickness so combined with the smaller chambers compression should be up a bit, lol. I like Edelbrocks and this is a known good one but ya, wanted to do it with a qj. I could use an adapter but it would prolly defeat the purpose and I'd still need a carb for my dad's truck. And hood clearance would become an even bigger issue.

edit-After looking at the numbers a bit, I may be pushing the compression. We shall see.

Finally some updates for this. I was having quite a bit of issues after putting the top end on. I was having all sorts of issues with cylinders missing. While I was looking into all possible problems, and driving it to work. I had at least one of the rockers start to continually loosen. So, although I was hoping to avoid it, I pulled the cam. Multiple lobes were wearing or almost gone! I just happened to have a Comp XE268 laying around, so in it went. Solved some issues, but then I still ended up with plugs becoming very black and sooty, they were dry as well. Didn't trust the 600 that was on it, so I threw on a 750, that seemed to be on better working order. Thought it was good but after about ten miles the car started to miss again. And I mean cutting out popping out the exhaust etc. So it sat on the back burner for a bit.
Next I threw the 750 off the Malibu that I knew 100% there was nothing wrong with. Same problems.

Today, problem solved! Left the hood off and it was fine. It seems with the even more reduced hood clearance from the new intake it must have been acting like a choke. Now this had crossed my mind before but I had ran it with the hood off and was still having problems. In hindsight the last time I had the hood off, it still had the bad cam in it.

More pictures to come.

I ran into the same issue on my jeep, time to break out the cutting tools and make more room, lol.

Yep, working on getting another hood right now. I'd like to save the one I have just in case I sell it without the engine.

Is it odd that all my cars have to have hood scoops?

Decide to take it to work today. The air cleaner I would usually throw on is buried under snow right now, so I threw on the only other thing laying around, a velocity stack. Car ran good other than being low on coolant. But it just had to start snowing before I got off work. Figured these pics might be a little funny.

Hahaha that is just awesome! How'd she handle in the snow? I can't imagine it too good being how light she is lol.

Lol, I thought some of you guys would enjoy that. Obviously it's not that great in the snow, but the posi rear helps. I ran about 45mph all the way home.

Well she has a hood again. I ended up cutting the one I had, oh well, I'll keep my eye out for another one. Just bought a cheap Summit Racing plastic scoop and used the 3m tape to put it on. I might do something a little nicer on down the road. It's too cold to paint it so it's just black for now. I'm almost contemplating leaving it that way and possibly adding some sort of satin black striping on the sides of the car. There is now a 9" air filter on top of the carb. I didn't use the top of the assembly though, the filter sits against the scoop. and yes I know, it's a Ford style scoop,we can't all be perfect lol.
