looking to updrade my crappy truck heads to vortecs. i was just wondering what you guys are payin and where your getting them. i have been lookin on craigslist but they are kind hard to come by around here. would new aluminum vortec heads be worth the money with the dual intake bolt pattern? heres the dual bolt pattern heads. http://www.jegs.com/i/Patriot-Performance/723/2151/10002/-1?parentProductId=1192214
it would be nice to keep my performer intake i guess. let me know what you guys think

thats not a bad deal for those heads I would guess but the y are not alum they are cast iron

damn your right i over looked that part i guess. is aluminum really worth the money? am i really going to save that much weight by switching?

I am running those heads on my 350 at 10.5: 1 compression and have been happy with them ( Patriot has been taking a beating for their quality issues on some forums ).

I cannot really see how the alum would be much better performance wise other than taking some weight off the nose of the car.

yeah i guess i dont know much about patriot, i guess i could always sell my intake and get a different one if i get vortec heads. as for if its really worth the extra money for the little bit of weight savings i dont think i car that much. what kind of issues are people having with patriot if you dont mind me asking?

I believe one of the main advantages of alum over cast heads is better heat transfer that allows you to run higher compression ratio on pump gas because it wont detonate as easy.

I paid $300 for a set of complete vortec heads....and another $150 for a rpm air gap intake......there's another set of vortecs for sale that has no rockers and they are asking $250....there's a local speed shop that has a pair for $895....they have had them for sale for a long long time and at that price they're rust out before they get sold..

yeah i guess i didnt think about the heat transfer, and detonation thats a good point, but $895 for a pair of stock heads! screw that. you can get a nice set of dart heads for that much. i guess i have a few options though. i can either take the crappy truck heads off that i have on the thing right now and can put some 350 tbi heads on that need to be freshened up. i can buy a set of aftermarket heads that will work with the intake that i have. or i can go the vortec route but then i have to get a new intake and valve covers. what would you guys do?

I would and I did go vortec....you get cheap increase in hp along with better fuel economy....

ok I admit...I could get better fuel economy except the car is so dam fun to drive with the 355 vortec, headers and 2.5 duel SS exhaust with Magnaflow mufflers and T5 WC transmission with a 3:08 posi...

yea i plan on getting either 3.73 or 4.11's i just got my eaton posi last week so thats a plus. theres just to much stuff that i want to do and not enough time/ money to do it all at once. should be fun once its done though. shitty part about this motor is i dont know what it all has inside it. a friend of mine is going to rebuild it for like $500 and that way we can see what it all has in it. i know it has a decent size cam because of the idle but as for the rest it'll be a surprise.
