wasup every one i have a question to ask the people on this forum that has done and completed lsx swaps.i have a 4.8 vortec motor that came come complete with the wire harness. So far the wire harness is still attached to the motor and has pcm also with it.

What i want to know is since the wire harness is in great shape how hard would it be to use it with the stock fuse box of my 80 monte carlo.or will i need to get a aftermarket stand alone wire harness.

The short answer is -- get an aftermarket harness.

It is certainly possible to adapt a factory harness, but honestly, if you have to ask how then you probably aren't quite up to the task yet. That may sound a bit harsh but I'm just being honest. Plus, the aftermarket harnesses are just a lot cleaner in the end. I've done several EFI engine swaps and gone both routes. It's obviously cheaper to modify a factory harness but the aftermarket option is just so easy it's hard to justify the time/trouble it takes to build your own.
While it's not an LSx, this will give you an idea of what is involved in modifying a factory engine harness to work in a Gbody. After reading the entire thread (which is still ongoing) you'll have a better idea of whether or not you feel confident in doing it yourself.
