Yea, but we're a little screwed up with the whole crime thing, we shoot the guy stealing our stuff and then he gets off; then we get arrested for shooting him and spend a fortune trying to defend ourselves in court. Just a personal rant but Rural people up here know what I'm saying.
I am sorry for your loss. I have only had one thing stolen from me here in Iowa. I had a set of 38 inch wheels and tires stolen off a pickup in my yard at night while I was home. They are dam lucky they did not wake me up. Here in Iowa we can shoot thieves. It is legal.
In town it is safe to rob us blind, guns are less likely especially in a small town. Go to a farmers place and you may end up getting multiple guns pointed at you.
My garage was hit a few years ago. They emptied a hockey bag on the floor. Stole every tool they could fit into the bag, grabbed my Downhill bike from the rafters and rode off. ripped me off for over 7K worth of stuff. Its only gotten worse in the last few years. Its so bad here they had to institute "The Watch" where a bunch of volunteers patrol the downtown core. The attached crime numbers are just from this week. Pretty brutal for a city of 90K or so.
