think i saw a little air under that front left 8)
I wouldn't feel too bad about that video, you held your own against a boosted 640hp monster that costs $100k +
very cool car man, I'm always shocked how hard those motors pull. And with a build like your's, sacrifice nothing, can cruise all day long without a sweat
trying myself to get into the 12s this summer, but I'm gonna give up even more street manners to do it... poor old small chebby
yeah, I am close...
weight is not an issue, she's already pretty trim when I go racing. And I've worked out the shifts too, solid cam goes right to 6000rpm where I shift just past.
combo is missmatched, getting better converter this summer, and gears will help. Then it's a matter of sorting out the terrible traction.
Trap speed is indicative of hp/weight ratio. Your trap speed suggests 12s.
Getting all the power to the ground might be harder than getting the engine to produce the power. I feel like slicks are a band-aid solution. There are cars that run 9s and 10s with Drag Radials.
Have you considered anti-hop bars or adjustable UCAs? Air pressure in the tires is also crucial and optimal pressure varies car to car, so no one can tell you the "right" pressure.
correct
there's a few problems at play right now. I have raced this combo for 3 years now and determined the following...
The stall is very poorly matched to the motor. It's too large and just doesn't flash... I can't even load it enough to count. Then there's the gearing... it's great for an all-rounder, but it's slightly too tame for this cam. The cam would feel happier, even at cruising rpms, with either a smaller or larger gear... right now it's compromising on both ends, thus poor gas consumption and little performance to show for it.
so I know what you're thinking... "won't this make traction worse?" Yes, yes it will
traction is poor as it is, because I'm cheap and still using old hard slicks, which are too tall as well. So new proper sized slicks will help tremendously. I've get some new drag radials which I'm hoping to try at the track... they're too tall so I won't see the trap speed, but I hope to improve my 60' with the grip they'll offer over my old slicks.
Then there's the issue of track prep... I can show you some videos from the track I go to, you'll be baffled at how that place is even open for racing. I don't expect mid 12s at this track, I might just squeek in to a 12.9...
I bet, and from many testimonies, at any other track this car will do high 12s, as is.
I'm gonna take this one at a time, to see what works and what doesn't. Suspension is already well setup, sway bar, boxed arms, new bushings, and with good pinion angle, I don't have any hop issues. If new slicks don't cut it, then LCA relocation brackets are next in order.
Kudos! You have done a great job with that car. I ran a best of 12.4 at 109 in my GN also with stock internals and on pump gas & drag radials. Full exhaust stock 3.42 gear just like I drive it. Usually gets about 22 mpg if I drive sensibly probably about the same as you get. I'm not the best drag racer tuner and really just have not had the time & money to devote to it as there is a lot better et & more mph in the tuning of mine but the similarites or rather results strike me. The LS engines impress me as it does it without a turbo & like the turbo Buick motor retains the reliability driveability & mileage. Short of a totally budget availability thing where I am not putting money into building one I will never do a gen I sbc again. Keep it up!
That's a very good 60', what rpm are you launching at? I got the same tires and launching at 2200 rpm my best 60' is 1.85 on a 12.27/111. This is with a 3.73 rear.
