What a Nightmare

I honestly feel that there should a law prohibiting texting while driving. I even notice people walking that are so distracted and engulfed in their devices, they'll walk right into you...or better yet, into a pole. Some were known to walk out in traffic. Many times the outcome is not a good one.

Most states have laws regarding texting or distracted driving. And the phone zombie thing is already being addressed.

we have one here in Ontario for a handheld device which is phone, texting or navigation like a garmin. Jut picking up your phone to look at the time they will nail you of they see you ......but I see many people each day texting or with their phone on the ear...

"for a handheld device a fine of $400, plus a victim surcharge and court fee, for a total of $490 if settled out of court. fine of up to $1,000 if you receive a summons or fight your ticket. three demerit points applied to your driver's record."

it is supposed to go up with a drivers suspension and 6 demerit points

Wow. Canada doesn't mess around.

not with the cell phone and you should see the amount of people who don't get the picture.......with other charges they are not as tough, I have one client with a $5,000 fine in traffic court dropped to $1,000 due to her financial circumstances and the same client the week later in the traffic court in another city she was looking at a $10,000 find I got reduced to $1,500. For cell phone they may drop the fine $100 but leave the points. For a truck driver who hit 3 cars I got him down from careless to impede traffic, from 6 points down to 2 and a low fine.

Texting and driving is against the law here in PA. You are allowed to text when stopped at a light. The police do enforce it but it's hard to enforce it completely. They'd practically have to ticket 50% of people 100% of the time.

Apparently it's a law down here as well. Do people abide by it?....not really. When they get involved in a fender bender, it's boo-hoo....I'm so sorry...yeah, right. They're sorry when they get caught.

While in my new F650 box truck I had a lady in a SUV veer head on at me on a two lane road, I swerved over as far as I could to avoid her and watched her go down the side of my truck only to clip the back bumper of the box and it blew out her driver's front tire and relocated a portion of her front end.
She admitted she was texting and ended up going to jail once they found out she already had a suspended license, I have no sympathy for distracted drivers like that she was lucky no one was hurt and that she hit me in my big truck instead of an unsuspecting family in a car.

I got rear ended a couple years ago by a woman who was texting and driving. I was in my old Lincoln Town Car and it got a couple scratches on the rear bumper. She was in a Pontiac Sunfire and her front bumper ended up in the foot well. I drove away and got a new bumper cover out of it.
