What brand cap and rotor would you recommend?

Accel has to be the cheapest bunch of crap ever made.

I have never had any luck with anything from them

Standard with the brass terminals was always the best. I never had any issues with any MSD caps though. Used them on the race engines for 25 years.

Do not buy Accel. No Echlin? That surprises me. What's the oem application?

This is a crate motor so I had like a Jegs one or something. Don’t remember it’s been like 9 years. I’m sure Ac/Delco would have been oem application. Can’t find a listing for one these days.

Napa only seems to sell Accel for this application. It's the one I'd prefer but it only comes in tan. Freakin Tan!

I've been using an Accel cap and rotor for some time now and it's been ultra reliable. . I had it on the shelf for awhile and used it to replace the cheap cap and rotor that was on there previously. I suspect it was one of the better made ones from 20+ yrs ago.
