What did you do to/with your chainsaw today

Well, some progress. Cut the Carb Restrictors off so I can fully adjust the fuel range. For those who haven't done theirs, you pull these little red things here and cut the tabs off, then pop them back in.

When I first pulled the Flywheel Cover I noticed the Flywheel Nut was missing. It's Metric 8 fine thread, not the normal M8x1.25 like everything I have in my bucket of nuts. I'll have to see what I can find. Got as far as I could with it today.

Very nice. It's getting to be that time of year I need to break mine out and see what they need for firewood season. When I do I should post a picture lol some people would say I have a problem. But I just like chainsaws. My favorite is my 038 magnum but my 029 super is a good second my smallest is an 015 but I have almost enough to build an 010 I think I've also got a collection of 032 parts to put together. My largest is an 050 it runs but it needs some work.

Be careful or you way wind up in a turf war with joesregalproject - not too sure how close or far into your neck of the woods he's staked his claim on used saws and parts, but, if the roadside bottles are an indication he gets around

Good list of the older models. Biggest difference with the newer ones in the designs is they are better on gas and won't shake you to pieces. I had a MS290, that was the newer 029. That saw has a decent amount of weight in it for what you get out of it. Older anti-vibration system of bushings. I replaced that with my MS261 Pro Saw, light weight and a good bit more power. That saw does about 80% of what I do. If I find another one like it local I'll snag it up just to have. I've been getting the big saws because I have big trees here, that latest MS461 the price was too good to pass up.

My favorite is the 038 the only time we need big saws around here is in hurricane season.

I like some older saws but the newer stuff is cool too. 90s-early 00s saws are my jam. My 562xp is a monster and the power to weight ratio is incredible but the autotune can be very finicky. It does NOT like hot starts.

The 038s were great saws. I'd love to add an 038 Super to my collection. A friend has 2 that are fully restored shelf queens.

Over on my bench I got the lettering done on my shelf queen 066 today. Black paint pen works well.

Next project is this carcass which I intend on making into a cheap and ugly twin to the above saw. It has good compression and it's all OEM as it sits. The important stuff is there but it needs an oil pump, intake parts, trigger and handle pieces, muffler, AV mounts, and other miscellaneous crap.

I have been known to travel across state lines for saws...

I'd like some votes on a saw purchase.

My old husky is in new england. My 2 stihls are stuck packed away 250miles out. Between gas and time, it's cheaper to buy something than spend gas and lost productivity.

Aside from limb duty around the house, I NEED to start figuring out dropping this guy.

It's a really cool live oak but the truck is split twisted and rotted through its core, mushrooms included:

Probably about 18-20" DBH sizing.

On the 'like' to drop list is this bad boy, same DBH:

I just plain don't have time to sort out a broken saw, including time to mess with a saw someone gunked up with ethanol. So I'm probably relegated to new.

But I hate all the new emissions standard crap. Can't win.

I was leaning towards a ms250/ms251? Not sure. Thoughts that do NOT involve walmart, home depot, or lowes? (Or any such ilk?)
Sorry I missed this post, I was on a highway somewhere running on 4 hours of sleep chucking piss jugs at hotshot drivers (those guys are the worst). Did you end up buying a saw or are you still in the market?
