After a full year and 3 months I finally got the ole squarebody back on the road. Feels great to wheeling this old truck down the road again! Brand new crate 383, fully rebuilt sm465 and rebuilt the np205. Took me way longer than I had originally anticipated, but I’m gaining on it. It’s still a work in progress one piece at a time..

Installed a dual 12v outlet since I broke the original.

Finally got warm enough so that I could crack the main door open again. So this past Friday I uncovered the trailer just enough that I could test fit the backing plate for the junction box in its new position. Cut a short length of 1 inch angle and set that in position so that it could sit on the top rail. Had the plate sit up against it and liked what I had.

Barked up the welder and tacked the angle to the plate and went back to the trailer, Sat the angle back down on the upper face of the top rail and re-centered the assembly side to side. Clamped it in place, took a few measurements, and laid in a couple of center punch divots. A little bit of drilling later and I had the holes I needed to mount the bracket; opened the two in the rail to around 3/16ths and tapped them for 1/4 fine thread, then did the same to the angle on the bracket only they went right to 17/64's so the bolts could go right on through.

Today was even warmer so I booted the welder up and added more weld to the bracket. There is one more short run left to do on each side but my lid is telling me that it wants fresh batteries so that will be a tomorrow thing to do. BUT, I did manage to tack the exhaust pipe clamp cradles to the new thicker backing strap that i cut and drilled last fall. This will be going in the S-10 once I get back to working on that. The one in there uses a strap that isn't heavy enough and it bends. With the cradles tacked in place, I now will only have to wrestle with the u-bolts and the pipe; fewer hands required.

Pictures may be forthcoming.

finally got cool enough here Saturday morning I could crack the truck windows down and not have to run the a/c 👍

Perfect corprate timing for such a sell in our area (& all affected by that storm).

So what you are saying is that Harbor Freight made the storm happen to increase their sales
