That is lucky. Leave it to me to forget once and run the door over the roof of a car. Then again, if it didn't clear, you could just do a door lift.

You know, there's an easy answer.

You put whichever of the wife's cars you hate/hate working on the most on top of the lift.

Then, smack it with the door.

Use insurance proceeds to pay for renovation raising the roof and/or removing that garage door "so it wouldn't happen to her other car".

Comes with being a family man... the days of the single use shop/garage and it remaining the man cave are... well, facing extinction.

I actually have permission from the wife to build a temporary shop (something between 40x40 and 36x64) prior to the next house to solve just that problem.

It's funny, I just sold that same shop vac, and got more than it cost me.

The funny thing is the older I get the more I see the importance of having a shop of my own. I have young kids and I am getting old fast. I am also blessed with having outbuildings to store stuff. I have a 30×40 shop and hope to add another 25 feet to it in the near future. The tractor and skid loader need to get out of my car shop!

Put the clear cup away for now, put on the #7 ceramic and set for 15cfm gas flow. Set it for 95amps, add like 10 pulse per second and 60% or so duty cycle on the pulse. When you get puddle started throttle back on the peddle a bit so it will follow the torch and move more quickly with the torch head angled about 15-20 degrees toward direction of travel. Also get comfortable for a short stitch, like 1.5" and allow cooling for like 1 minute before you restart.

This was high frequency and 85A on 20 gauge, but all the other settings you mentioned above. 95A gave me blow through.



Watched a bunch of "beginners" and "common mistakes" videos today too. I am glad I did a bunch of stuff wrong yesterday so I know what less wrong looks like today. My plan is to practice about an hour a day or so.

I think we need a welding thread.

I only have a single 220v outlet in my garage. So what do you do when you're a one man show with a welder, air compressor and hoist that need it at any one time?

Plugging and unplugging things gets old fast.

Here's my next endeavour:

This three-way switch and a few other outlets, should make things a bit nicer. Especially with the extension cords dropping power closer to where I need it.
