Also, what are my options for a carb? The computer and all it's BS are goig bye bye, but can I just de-computerize the q-jet or am I lookin at a new carb?

you're looking at a new carb. I personally like Qjets and would be of the opinion that another qjet would be the way to go.

just get a carb that matches the use of the car. if its a street car get one for the street. and know how to tune it. part of owning a carb is tuning it to match YOUR engine. they're tuned to run but not matched to your engine so you may need to changes jets and such.

Sell the victor intake, its too big for those vortec heads and it won't even bolt up if its off a non vortec engine. not to mention I don't think it will fit under the stock hood. definitely run the vortec heads, there real good and economical for a factory head. get a performer or a performer rpm intake for the vortec heads, an edelbrock reman carb, and a gmpp serpentine belt drive system. it has everything you will need for the front, alternator, water pump, a power steering pump and an option for a/c. all of that will give you a very reliable ad streetable engine with the hp level you want. another tip, don't rush the swap. take your time and do everything right the first time.

now now Hot Rod and Car Craft can not be wrong. THE only engine worth having is a small block Chevy. Every Cutlasses should have one plus a 4" cowl induction hood, bumper to bumper skunk stripes and a set of Corvette Rally rims too ... don't forget to paint a BIG bowtie acrossed the hood! I'm not sure why GM wasted time making Regals and Cutlasses ... think of how many more Monte Carlos could have been produced if they didn't waste the metal elsewhere. Better yet a few more red Camaros.

BTW you definately won't retain the Q-jet off an Olds they are totally different from a Chevy. Oldsmobiles are not Chevy ... almost nothing interchanges.

Since when have they ever said that? or even hinted toward that? While there not "THE only engine worth having" the chevy 350 and now even the ford 302, dare I say, are the cheapest engines to build. when it came down to swapping in a v8 into my regal, I really wanted a buick 455. I searched for a good core or a runner for damn near a year, but when my 3.8L didn't run anymore I went for the chevy 350. I didn't have to spend a ton of money to get the chevy in there, where as getting the 455 in would have cost me at least $2,000 more.

P.S. IMO corvette rallys only look good on chevy's and any cowl hood over 2" on a street car is silly.

a 307 olds is junk in my book, specially if your looking for horsepower ...chevy man here all the way . no more machine work is involved in a chevy than anything else. but if the olds 307 is in a g body its still a good car, it could just be made better with a chevy powerplant lol. last time i was ordering a solid roller cam for a sbc at summit i ask the man what was his choice in hotrods..he said he liked them all but if he was wanting to make some horsepower ..chevy was where it was at, i dial his extension everytime i order parts lol. man everybody has there own opinions ,but if you got a g body then you have the best driving and handling car made so dont really matter about whats under the hood. swap it out just get ya the engine brackets and pulleys ,fan, ..etc from a 80's monte carlo with factory sbc. take the engine mounts off the monte carlo bolt them on the cutlass with 3 bolts on each side and drop it in. need to use the radiator and condenser from the monte also as the lines come out on the opposite side , get the ac plumbing and lines off the monte also. junkyard is best bet. easy swap.

Who said "use a 307 to make power?" that's not the only Olds out there. That statement would be like "drop a 305 in there" IMHO a 305 is an even bigger waste of time and effort. A 350 Olds is an even easier swap! Only mods you got to make are to hook up a set of headers :-D

BTW, eventually I am planning to lose the Gen 1 SBC in my car... for an LSX! Complete with 6 speed transmission and an independent rear suspension.

I know where there are a couple Northstars laying around ... if I had the time, finances and the rest of the means to do so .... There are these evil ideas involving one of them and a T56 ... It's almost an Aurora right? Alas, it's just a pipedream right now. I got all my resources tied up in the current mods.

My choice would be the LS7 with the T-56 from an F body. The Northstar is too old now, and it really doesn't make enough power in stock form for my taste. BTW...anyone have a line on a cheap, wrecked C6 ZR-1? A CTS-V perhaps?
