What is going on here??

there are some who build replacement sections for the body mounts on G bodies. I repaired all of mine and found out there was a local guy who did make them but they were not cheap so it worked out for me to rebuild them
 
what improvements do urethane bushing give to a car?

It will stiffen everything up. the same reason people use aluminum body bushings on race cars to stiffen up the car. Factory rubber bushings deflect causing movement in the bushing, where urethane does not.

That and they don't degrade like the rubber ones, meaning you'll only have to put them in once.
 
There are still some cars out there with the original body bushing so the OEM bushings aren't that bad. After 30 years you can't really complain about them

Very true. I was just talking about the replacement ones. In my experience 7 times out of 10 they are inferior to the OEM parts (depending on the manufacturer). The OEMs lasting for 20+ years and the replacements only lasting 2-3.
