what would be the best to use on this car

I have used the meiguers(sp?) and the mothers cleaners and waxes with an orbital buffer($30 or so at autozone) for light swirll marks. Really makes a big difference. I would try this first and if the marks are still bad check into having it buffed by a paint shop. They will use a a more aggressive compound and bring it up in steps to take all the marks smooth.

What is your budget? That is the main factor as to what you will use.

I assume you don't have a buffer / polisher yet?

Let's start with the money you want to spend and I will tell you what you need, you can get a professional random orbital buffer, pads, and some of the best polish on the market for less then $400. That will basically get you a show car finish, and is what I use for all my details, and if you want I can link to some threads I have on a detailing forum to show what can be achieved with that setup.

Also, check out http://www.autogeek.net they have a very good forum for detailers and will help you out with any questions you have that I can't answer.

I can't wait to take some before and after pics of my Cutlass after I polish it up 8)

ya i washed it today with a hand mitt and dried it but its still got like some dry spots and dirt spots it looks like, bleh i spent like 1hr out there tierd myself out lol >_<

no no buffer and polisher and heck if it costs that much 400 or so id just take it to a body shop and drop them a hundred or so to sort it

How much are you willing to spend on it?

It doesn't have to cost $400, you can get decent results spending much less, but not like this S10 I detailed last summer

Something to consider here is that for the $400 you would spend on supplies, you can do your car many times. Then, once you get the hang of it, other people will probably want you to do their cars and pay you  If you take your car to a detail shop, your car will look nice, but only that one time, and when it gets scratched up again ( or the fillers fade away from a cheap detail job ) you will have to pay again to have it done. If you guy the stuff, you already have everything you need to do it yourself without spending more money, and you get the satisfaction of being able to say "I did that" 8)

If you are still not convinced to drop the money on a good setup ( trust me, it is worth it ) you can pick up a clay bar kit, some Meguiar's Scratch X polish to use by hand and some Meguiar's NXT 2.0 Techwax. This combo will make a difference in the paint, leave it smoother and cleaner also with a nice shine.

i figured for around 100 to 150 i could sort the scratchs and the small few chips i got

For that price range, I would check out the Mothers Ultimate Wax Kit for $50. It is designed to be used by hand and will remove light hazing and help to fill in some deeper swirls and scratches. It won't be as nice as a machine polish, but it would be much better then the car is now if you have never tried anything like this before.
