Hands down the Ferrari F40. A visceral gut punch of a car. Being a child of the 80s i did have posters of Countach, 911 turbo, 930 slantnose, 959, and even a Testarossa. All of these were childhood fantasy and easily dismissed as such. Fun to look at but you know that its never going to happen.
The one car that sticks out in my head as striking the perfect balance between unobtainium eye candy and the real possibility of actually owning one is the 87 Grand National. Ive been lucky enough to have some experience with one, put quite a few miles on it, wrench on it, and i absolutely love them. They look sinister as hell but under all of that is a sweetheart of a car that will pour out its soul for you! The only time i haven't been disappointed by something that was all hyped up. They deserve the hype.

I owned the 122 and always wished for the P1800 sedan or wagon. That wagon style was so popular that Volvo brought it out again claiming it was a new design. I don't know how Volvo did it but the new wagon had more problems than the original one had

I see you guys like some older Volvo's. I sold a 940 wagon to these clowns (the gold one at the end of the video) that have a YouTube channel. They just put up a video that has some choice examples of older ones, including a p1800

I went through some phases, I started off with the General Lee and Knight Rider obviously like many. But around the same time made my mom order me a subscription for big lifted trucks and loved those for a while, my dad hated it because he had an 87 MCSS Aero and I would always tell him dad trade this for that big lifted truck. But my first love was the F40 for sure as well, but then I fell for a movie because it was in it. Which was Army of One, could have also been Kristian Alfonso's topless scene :banana:

I grew up around a lot of cool old cars. The first new cars I remember thinking were cool were the 3rd gen Camaros and Firebirds at around 7 years old.
First car I remember really wanting was a '68 Camaro in my early teen years. Not sure why I fixated on '68s. Probably the L79.

Good morning Driven & all;
First car I remember really wanting was a '68 Camaro in my early teen years. Not sure why I fixated on '68s. Probably the L79.
Thanks for making me figure out how to do a quote. Anyway I think you mean a L-78 (396 - 375 HP) the L-79 was a 327 - 350 HP not offered in the Camaros. I'm pretty well informed form that time period as I had ordered a new L-78 Camaro from the base exchange (BX, Air Force). It listed for $3900 & with my military discount I got it for $3150 + a $75 delivery fee! Like any young idiot I only kept it 4 years. Tried to buy it back 3 times as the second owner was really dumb as he destroyed the engine. It ate valve springs often & I got very good at changing them. So I carried extras with me & could change one in less than 15 minutes. My last street race that didn't happen, I picked on a near new stock GTO ram air Judge. And as we were heading out into the country to race a spring broke. I pulled over into a closed gas station that was well lite & asked him to wait a few minutes while I changed it. After 10 minutes as I was finishing up, he said " I ain't racing anybody that can change a vale spring that fast" & he drove away. No race! The Camaro was fairly light as it weighted 3375 & easily revved to 7500 R's as I had replaced the stock solid cam with a second edition L-88 cam, ported the heads, balanced & clearanced it. Plus toped it off with a Holley 3 barrel 950 CFM & Hooker headers. It ran 12.39 best that I can prove (still got news clipping from win at Byron drag strip). But the real fun was it would put down a solid 12.5 on the street & that was quick enough to be one FUN car as my daily driver. I couldn't afford two cars at the time! Most everything else on the streets at the time weighted more & few had solid lifters so their RPM was limited to 5500 R's. So the little rat would just drive away, didn't matter if it was Hemi MOPAR or a 427 side oiler Ford. They all weighted more & usually had less RPM on tap. Th only guy that could beat me was a friend's L-72 Chevelle & that was before I ported the heads & did the cam swap. Thanks for bringing back the memory, Ole' Bob.
Ps: Note snow tires on 3rd picture!

We actually have an FIA Cobra at work now that we need to repair the hood. If I remember, I'll post up a pic or two. It's a glass car with a 427, about 600hp skateboard.
It's kinda buried right now, but here's a few for now.

Greetings Guys; Oh, the thread subject. I got carried away, understatement the usual. What got me here (automobile affliction). Summer of 1961 my older cousin pulls into the drive way with a black 56 Ford 2 door ex Kansas cop car,still has the hole in the roof! Three on the tree 292 or 312 4 barrel. I was 15 & he took me for a full on ride ride, second gear rubber, now were only talking about a squeak. Two years before my uncle had takin' me for a ride in his new Edsel up too a hundred, my mother was pissed. But what really did it was the fall of 61 when my uncle Paul (Ford owner's dad) & older son Paul Jr pulled into Grand Ma's driveway with two new Corvettes. And Uncle Paul tossed me the keys to his new 61 Vette. I wasn't 15-1/2 yet so no temp drivers license. My dad said he's too young to drive, my uncle said let the kid have some fun. So the first car I ever drove was that Vette. Can you imagine an uncle doing that today?? I was the only kid in my high school that had driven a Corvette & that's all I could think of for the remaining school years! By 1965 I owned one, a 63 327 - 340 HP with solid lifters & I don't ever remember loosing a race with it? My favoret race memory is when I beat a older friend with a brand new 65 GTO twice. The slug GTO would only rev to 5500 at best. The little Vette would wind to 6200 easy & of course it was Way lighter. Then the Damn war! Ole Bob.
