A friend of mine gave me a motor that he claims is a 305 H.O. from a n 87 ss monte... It has 1 piece main seal and center bolt valve covers, what appears to be a factory aluminum intake, with a four barrel quadra jet carb...the front pad says V1201 CKH...I've searched all the code sites and all i can find is either 1974 307cid or 350cid...does any body know what this is or if its a H.O. or something else? I am completely stumped. Scurge

What are the casting numbers on the intake? Pull a valve cover and look at the head casting numbers. Chevy didn't go to a 1 piece rear main until 86. Maybe they installed the original 87 heads on that 70's 350?

Another simple check is look at the rear crank flange, 2 piece seal cranks are shaped to I.D. stroke (305 & 350 same) & 1 piece are round. By the cast # should be a date code (month=letter, day=2 digit, year=1 digit). If I remember right the 4 center intake bolts are at a different angle (iron heads) for '86 up.

I know that at one point they changed it on iron heads but not aluminum heads, then later on with Vortecs did away with them. Was thinking it happened with 1 piece seals.

It definatly has the one piece rear main seal ...Its still in an wrecked s-10 v8 conversion so i cant see the transmission flange cast # but can make out an obvious "GM" and then some numbers ...I'll have to get a brush with a long handle to clear off the crud before i might be able to read them...where are intake cast #s ? Something interesting, while searching the web, i found a post from a guy in 2006, who was asking the same question about the same ckh suffix and the same descripion motor on like 4 different sites, and never got an answer or conclusion...lets figure this one out once and for all guys...I"m sure that guy from 2006 andI I are not the only people who have this motor...Thanks in advance.... Everything you said about the motor would back the claim of being a 87 motor. 1 piece rear seal (started in 86)
center bolt valve covers (started in 87) aluminum intake (all 83-88 L69 has) and a 4bbl is it a cc carb ?
