Any Gbody rearend will bolt in but the 8.5 uses a 1" shorter driveshaft than the weak *ss 7.5. The 12 bolt GM rears will bolt in but most are slightly wider than the Gbody rears and they require an aftermarket control arm conversion kit. The Furd 9 inch is everywhere and are made aftermarket to bolt in.

The 8.8 Mustang rear can be made to fit with an adapter kit that is available aftermarket, but it's pricey. I think the 8.8 is a little narrower than our rears too. There is no direct fit rear for our cars except the ones that came in our cars. You can buy aftermarket ford 9in, 12 bolt, dana 60 rears for our cars, but they come with a price tag attached. Best bang for the buck if you want to keep your car all GM is to find a 10 or 12 bolt from a 68-72 A body(otherwise go with a 9"). All you would need to do is buy the adapting upper arms and buy new lower brackets for a g body. You'll want to relocate the coil spring brackets too. I didn't mention the 8.5 that came in the Grand Nationals and Cutlass 442 because people that have them think they are made of gold, which just isn't the case. You can find 12 bolts for less than what people want for their g body 8.5 rears.

The fox body 8.8 is just a bit wider than the stock rear. Just under an inch per side iirc.
