Hello everyone. I was wondering what rear suspension set up you guys are using for the street. I have a 81 malibu with stock boxed control arms now. Looking to upgrade. Ive been looking at the umi set up. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks , Mike.

UMI double adjustable arms with roto-joints, UCA frame mounting holes relocated 1” higher, LCA adjustable mounts on the rear end, 2” lowering springs, UMI 1” frame mount sway bar, rubber rear end UCA mounts, fays2 watts link

swapping arms isn’t going to change anything for the street. If you’re looking to turn hard or hook at the strip, they add strength in conjunction with other modifications.

I used UMI upper adjustable, lower solid, Moog 5659 springs and KYB gas shocks, UMI sway bar. The fender lip on my Elco is even with the top of my 245/45X17 tires. All for around $600.00

One thought if you’re on a tight budget..... buy new Poly bushings for one end the boxed arms you already have, and articulating joints for the other. Source a junkyard mustang rear sway bar, and get some kyb or bilstien shocks.

If you are going to lower the car more than 1”, you might have to change the UCA mounts for street driving. The angles get wonky fast, and it adversely affects handling.

On mine I use UMI lower poly/roto joint combo;
With UMI upper with adjustable roto joint;
I also have Hotchkis rear control arm braces;
Viking double adjustable shocks,Eibach lowering springs,an older set of anti roll bars that have frame mounted heim joints for end links,and a UMI rear shock tower brace;
This seems to be a pretty good combination of parts,the front end has also been upgraded with a SC&C Stage 2 + kit from SC&C.
The front upgrades made the biggest improvement,IMO.
I can tell you that it handles a whole lot better than when I first got it.

I boxed my stock lowers and put poly bushings in them.

Uppers I have speedway spherical bushings that are direct press fit on the housing side and allstar dirt track arms for the uppers. Same thing as everyone elses's minus no paint.
