Since I installed the new water pump, my temp gauge has been doing this.

What say you guys? Shitty gauge? Massive air pocket?

At first I thought I accidentally f*cked up and got a GN water pump, but afaik they still rotate clockwise (normal direction), and I specifically asked for, and saw the parts monkey type in 1985 Regal Limited with a 3.8 NA. (they share the same pump as the 350/4.1, etc)

The big bounce you see was railroad tracks. Two tracks each on their own little "peak" of a larger hill. Cross section would look like an inverted McDonald's "M".

I'm currently waiting for the car to cool down enough for me to open the rad and see what's what.

I will say it , first screw that cheap gauge pack down..............and then maybe an air pocket.

I would check your gauge with a heat gun. What kind of gauge is it? Electronic or mechanical? Looks like a wiring problem to me. When filling an engine with coolant I always take a plug or something loose on the top of an engine to make sure there is no air pockets. Unless it has a burp hose already.

Welp, that water pump lasted a little over 48 hours. Piece of sh*t. Bearing's out of it. Metallic flakes in the coolant. Tossing coolant everywhere, presumably out the bearing hole. Making a horrible squealing noise, better not have eaten away at my cover. 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

I also took it on a 200 mile journey. It died coming home. After wiping the back of my legs, I think it was just the module in the distributor. Let it cool off, spark came back and it started. Felt kind of chunky, like intermittent spark.

Ah, I love old cars.
