What trans fluid are you using?

I always thought that the fluid was specific to the transmission due to the seals and o rings that were used....

Yes and no

More for the clutches last that I knew off GM's have the friction material on the clutches Fords have it in the fluid.

At least that how I remember it from many moons ago

Just for added input, I've always used type F, for turbo 400s, 350s and presently, the th2004R.

Brad Pen in my engines and Brad Pen in my transmissions

BRAD PENN III H Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) is recommended for use in pre-2006 model General Motors automatic transmissions where a now obsolete Dexron® III fluid is specified and post-1981 and pre-2007 Ford automatic transmissions where a now obsolete Mercon® fluid is specified. Not for use in applications calling for Dexron® VI or Mercon® V fluids or in select transmission applications requiring specialized fluids. It is suitable for use where Allison C-4 and Caterpillar TO-2 fluids are required. Additionally, this product is suitable for use in the following applications: • Power steering units • Rotary screw compressors • Some automotive, industrial, mobile and marine hydraulic systems • Powershift transmissions in off-highway construction, agricultural and mining equipment. Always consult the equipment owner’s manual for proper fluid selection.

I have Dexron 3 in my 2004R. A lot guys, including myself in my TH350C, I mixed just enough Type F to colour Tractor Trans Hydraulic fluid. I actually plan on trying Dexron 6 mixed with Trans Hydraulic fluid.

This was the last time I bought trans fluid and its been sitting in there ever since........

My dad has a bottle of ATF from the 1990s from a store called Western Auto, before they became "Advance". Bought it for his 81 GP, never opened it.
