What is the least common truck that is on the road nowdays? A regular cab 8 foot bed! SUVs and crew cabs based on the full size platform have replaced the Caprices, Coupe de Ville and the restI dunno, trucks have gotten more and more luxurious over the years. I hadn't considered them filling the role of a Caprice or something bigger.
Don't you mean "oversized pickups and SUV"s"? My feeling is that C10, C20, F100, F150, F250's of the 70's and early 80's were what a full size was supposed to be. Today's full size makes them look small.forget the big cars, now many have transplanted their butts to full size pickups and full size SUV's..

You'll see the same parking a '70 Challenger next to a 2020 one or any F-Body GM model then and now.
Even the 2nd Gen 2500 RAM I used to drive was small against a new one and that was the biggest you want to drive on European roads.
They had to get bigger, because they got more powerful - because everything around them did the same. It was to avoid dying.
I am pleased with the way things turned out. The original muscle cars were relative turds by comparison to what we have today.
