I have an 80 monte carlo, will any G body 7.5 rear bolt right in?? my whole rear end is done for and i need a new one, my housing is cracked

i can get my hands on an 85 MC rear end 7.5, will that bolt right in?

I know an 8.5 is the way to go, but i dont have 850 to throw at one right now, i need a quick fix.

try and find a later monte ss 7.625/ 7 5/8 rear. (they came in other models too) it's a little bit stronger and usually has 3.73's with a posi.

yeah sorry, if it has the th350 trans 3.73 is a bit much.

parts

swap the gears if they are any good or look into an overdrive swap. how did the old rear split the case anyhow?

Re: parts

Gas mileage is my least concern , this is a rare street driver track car. but ill keep an eye out for that SS rear

When i broke my axle some how the case, were it joins to the pig, cracked. i only found the crack because of the fluid that was seaping out of it. its not big, but its there.

The best GM bolt in is the GN or 442's 8.5 rear axle, it is rare and pricey, but much stronger.

Posi is actually not all that common on SS's. In my estimation, only about 30% of them had it from the factory. I have owned 3, none of which were posi rear cars. Most were dealer ordered, and dealers like flashier options like power windows, A/C, etc.
