20 years? You are a crazy purist lol. I'm going insane after my Cutlass sitting for 4 years.

Don't kill me but If you can't decide on SBC or SBO go with a 20B because they sound crazy lol. OR you could just flip a coin???
 I think anyone on here would rather have a small block chevy in their Olds rather than a piece of sh*t rotary!

I second that. Rotaries are like crap that sound like they are about to expload. There is a race shop thats some bays down from me thats reallyinto them. but those engines can only move extremely light cars. I jokenly told one of those guys I should put a rotary in the maverick im working on and he flat out told me it wouldnt move it. That a Maverick was too heavy.

you can tell at an idle witch engine it is,the olds b/c of the center ports on the heads [exaust side] are not divided completely and the exaust pulses mix giving it a mellow sound at idle nothing like it. vhevy 350's are like a$$holes every body has one

It is actually a really shitty design. I will agree though, Olds do sound different. Most Olds engines built to run have metal added to the ports so they become 4 individual ports just like a Chevy. I had considered it on my 455 but did not want to spend even more money on it. That 455 was one hell of a runner though. Scary almost.

I do have to agree with you on them only being able to move ligth cars which sucks but as far as them being like crap that i have to disagree with. they're small and pack a lot of power. Plus they are one of the few motors can provide optimal weight balance and are a pure bred race engine. Either way though sorry to get the thread off topic.

I was also wondeing since one of the main arguements people have for the OP is that Chev is easier and cheeper to find parts for can some of the Olds purist give a few examples of wed sites where we can order performance parts from reasonable to a bit more expensive prices?

Agreed, the Olds does have totally exhaust note at idle especially. I have owned both, pulled a tired sbc from my 78 1/2. Put a high mile, good running Olds 307 vin y. With the 2.76 gearing and fairly tall tires, that 307 killed both sbc 350's. The original ran good but would only hit 90 mph floored. The stock 307 with only a glass pack would bury the speedo and more power everywhere else. The sbc doesn't run well with awful gearing, like Olds does.

It's people like you that not only make my little SBC look faster, but make me look smarter. 😛

He's got you there olds307 and 403! When in the Hell are you going to get your 403 running the way it should? You can't be representing Olds running 15's with a modded 403....

FYI, I noticed the combustion chambers in the carbed Buick, Olds, and Pontiac heads are a machined feature. CR's shd/be more accurate. I think that's why they sounded different too. Put a nice radius'd edge on the head chambers if you do.

NO brainer here...SBC, parts are easier to find, cheaper and you can get a bunch of HP out of 'em 8)

im a sucker for a olds! they do have a distinct sound i have my heads welded up so there is 4 ports per head still much different sound than a chevy
