if its going in an olds then i would wanna put a olds motor in it. but it doesnt realy matter thats just like buying two different brands of water. some people say ones better then the other, some people say "waters water." me personaly though, am a chevy guy but i have an olds and want to put an olds 350 in it but like they said before, parts are cheaper and everywhere for sbc 350 and just as good. how much bang do u want for your buck??

Blue86Monte what have your chevies ran in the quarter? I was just telling my experiences, didn't think a stock vin y 307 would out run two different stock sbc 350's so badly, it did. One actually ran decent till it blew up when the throttle stuck. Come September, you will see a better time.

They're all "rocket" motors as it was just an Oldsmobile marketing tool. With that said the earlier the better, the 68-72 are the best years.

thanks 84. the guy said from the casting#'s its from 68-76. i realy hate to put a chevy in a olds but there so hardto find.

What # are the heads? 68-72 would be #5,6,or7 heads.

casting # on block appears to be 395558 that what i was told
Ok, thats a 68-76 block..'68-69 had #5 heads. '70-?71had #6 heads, then '72 had #7 heads. '73 up had # 8 "smog" heads. The heads are clearly marked, #5-7 are the best in stock form.
