I don't want to spend too much money but I want a nice exhaust note...I figure I'll just have the muffler shop weld in a single new muffler...any suggestions? I'm leaning toward Flowmaster Delta Flow 40 series...

I'm not sure how loud it will be, didn't seem to be loud at all with a cat on my '91 Sonoma... I bought a cheapy $20 Cherry bomb turbo muffler & it sounds pretty deep at idle, don't hear it too much at cruising speed.

Glasspack. Best bang for the buck. I don't think a Flowmaster would work too well with a 307, but?

I bought the 80 series crossflow Flowmaster for an 85 Firebird. It has one inlet and two outlets. It is roughly the same size as the factory muffler and mounts behind the rear end in the same way as factory.

I'm not sure about your setup, but mine had one muffler mounted sideways behind the rear axle but before the gas tank. Then you can run the tail pipes out of the muffler and have them exit behind the rear wheels on either side.

You will need the exhaust shop to weld on your factory mounts to the muffler and make you two short tailpipes. It shouldn't cost much.

On a budget, you can go to the wrecking yard and get any muffler from any 1982-2002 Camaro or Firebird and mount it the same way. It is a great budget way to increase the pipe size and flow of your single exhaust. Just look for a V8 car.

Good luck!!

Also, you can buy the cat-back for a Grand National and bolt it on. Then you just need to have the exhaust shop hook it to your cat.

Good luck!!

I was going to say you could buy one of those cat-delete pipes from BSM, but then I saw you live in the great state of KAL-E-FAWN-YA :?

my 307 sbc has 3" collector and 3 1/2 flowmaster muffler and down pipes. its VERY loud. i almost got a ticket for starting it before 8am. theres and ordnance where ya cant mow yer lawn or use and loud machinery before 8am.

I've run two cars with the F-body style Flowmaster. My 87 and my 81. The sound out of the little 260 was pleasant and it was essentially stock exhaust all the way till you got to the muffler then I had a pipe out each side. People usually asked if I had a 350 under the hood (no one wanted to believe it was a stock 260). My 87 was probably done a bit better. 2.5" mandrel bent tube to the same style of muffler with the pipes turned down mimicking the factory style side exits. The 307 sounded pretty healthy (much better than the 260 for sure). BTW even with my 350 now in the 81, I am having a Y-pipe fab'd (hooking up full length Headmans/delete cat)and probably a new headpipe, but I am still sticking with the same single inlet/dual outlet muffler.
