Who makes a 255 50 17 that has a similar( wide) section width to a BFG 255 ?
Im not sure yet but I think I’m going to have swap out my 255 45 17 back tires for something a little meatier
Im running an 8” wheel back there , was thinking possibly a nitto 555 275 50 17 just because I heard they fit a little more narrow .
What do you guys think ?

I'm guessing you meant 275/40/17 and not 50 series? As far as narrow vs wide goes, each brand is different. Some generally run wider, some narrower. When trying to stuff as much tire as possible in our cars, each car WILL be slightly different. I highly recommend doing as much research as you can, and possibly still getting a wrong size, backspacing, etc. Sorry I can't help more than that

I have done a fair amount of research already , thats what made me think of the nitto 555 275 50 17 .
I am happy with how my rims fit backspacing is perfect my rear tire is just a little too short
apparently , the nittos run much more narrow than bfg brand size for size.
Im trying to find a tire that’s the same width as my 255 45 17 but about an 1”- 1 1/2” taller

Mathematically, a 255/50 would yield ~27" height. A 275/50 would yield a ~27.8" height.
Of course that manufacturing dimensions result in slight differences but the math gets you close to where the sizes should be.

Nitto has 3 models of tires in the 255/50R17 size. There is the Nitto Invo, the Nitto NT555-G2, and the Nitto NT450.
Yes , but by all accounts the nittos fit more narrow , I’m am concerned the Nitto 255 offerings would be more narrow than my 245 45 17 bfg sport comp II already installed on front of car

These are the tires on car now , fit nicely but I would like a tad bit more sidewall height in rear
255 45 17 rear
245 45 17 front
8” wheels front and back

I have Nitto Invos on my Malibu. 245/45R17 on the front, on 8" wide rims, and 255/50R17 on the rear, on 9" wide rims. The 255s are definitely wider than the 245s.

First choice in wheels didn't pan out but I already ordered the tires in 235/60r15... Have read so many posts and threads I don't think I can keep it all straight anymore. Want to run the same size on all four corners so I can rotate. Suspension is all stock and not planning major changes any time soon. Car is an 80 Cutlass, basically just a Sunday driver. Looking at 15x8 Outlaw II's in black, I like the look of steel wheels but figure if I'm spending the money I may as well save a little weight.

- 3.75" backspacing going to work front and back? I know consensus seems to be 0 offset for best fit, 1/4" out shouldn't be enough to cause any headaches?
- is a 235/60 going to be to be "too small"? I know they will fit the wheels and should look fine on the front, a little concerned that it won't look like enough tire for the rear though.

Maybe forget tire rotations and put a 255 on the back while keeping the 235 up front
Rear backspacing is good , I’ve never ran that combination on the front but I believe it should fine
