normally you put weights on both rims of the wheel to get a better balance but would it really hurt to put them only on the inside rim? i'm asking because i dont want the clear coat on my wheels mucked up by someone hammering a wheel weight on the outside rim.

i've changed a lot of tires but i want to see what some of you think. they're for a 90% street daily driver so they most likely will not see highway speeds. if they do it will not be very often.

these are my first set of wheels and i just dont want them messed up. how would you have them balanced?

I always use stick on weights..no weights on the lip for me

never had one come off? i've heard stories about them coming off. never an explanation why just stories bitching about the horrors of stick on weights. since most tire changers seem to be as smart as the little end of nothing sharpened i'm guessing it's because of installer error.

I also always use stick on weights, then I put a piece of Gorilla duct tape over them as extra insurance.

i have a roll of that stuff, dont touch the sticky side on anything you dont want it stuck to! it might take a gorilla to remove it. i will keep that in mind if i use sticky weights.

as long as the rim is cleaned well I have never lost a weight...but the tape is a good idea..

And the wheels can be dynamical balanced using stick on. If the tire guy is good and not lazy he'll match the tire to the rim to cut down on the amount of weights

Always use the stick on weights here too. Just clean the inside of the wheel good before you stick em on. I also use duct tape on my 83 that sees more track than street.

that'll be the challenge in this, finding a shop with a good tire guy that knows what he's doing. always a roll of the dice...i have time to look around to find a good shop.

One thing I also so do before I have a tire balanced is after cleaning the areas where the stick on weights will go I actually use a marker and put arrows and guidelines where the weights have to go to clear my calipers(more important for the rears) I try to make it as moron proof as possible.
I actually had a Discount Tire mount my slicks with tubes once and I even had to supply the baby powder and instead of dusting the tubes they used so much that when they went to balance it they said it was moving up and down on the machine, when I tore it down there was almost half a cup of powder in one area.
