In my experience....Ive had better performance with the 2bbl than with the 4bbl on stock sbo's. Unless the motor is built to require the carb/intake set up, adding it wont do much to improve the performance on its own. No need to add cfm's if the engine cant use it. Now, if I had changed the cam, added larger valves, and increased CR...I could see the need and would have added it. True, I may get a few more mpg's with the 4bbl, but once the 4bbl opens up, that ratio drops below the 2bbl.... in 1970, the stock build of this engine called for the 2bbl...so its built to run in that manner.DoubleV said:bill said:With my engine, a stock 350sbo, #6 heads..it runs great with the 500cfm 2bbl rochester. Excellent throttle response and cranks with just a touch of the pedal and a bump of the starter. Unless I go with a lot more performance upgrades, or plan to drive across the country, I wont be removing it to add a 4bbl intake and carb. Just seems to me to be a waste of expensive gas....jmo of course..
Technically, a Qjet gets better milage and throttle responce than most 2 barrel carbs because the primaries on the Qjet are smaller. Truthfully a 2 barrel has nothing to offer over a Qjet in any way except the fact you may not actually currently own a Qjet.
