Then look for a 10-bolt rear end that has the metal tag on one of the cover bolts.... That's what mine has, and it says "use limited slip oil" or something similar.

Alright, thanks ill look today.

I have an 8.5" big boy posi out of a 87 442 that will bolt right up. It has the 3:73 ring gear too.

It may be more than you are looking for though.

Yes' just a tad to much but thank's for letting me know.

Didn't Monte Carlo ss have decent rear ends? wouldn't they bolt right up to my cutlass?
The Monte SS's had 7.625" with either 3.42s or 3.73s. With a 4 speed auto I would definatley go with the 3.73s.

Which model came with the 3.73?

The 83-84s had 3.42s and the 85-88s had the 3.73s. All had the option of limited slip.

Try craigslist. I got an 87 limited slip 3.73 for $100 last year this time.

Good find. Every rearend I've seen for sale with decent gearing and limited slip has been $500 and up. People seem to think that the SS stuff is worth as much as the 442, GN, H/O parts around here.

I looked @ it in my area it is nothing around here.

I have a 7.5 auburn posi 2 series. It needs the 2 pinion gears, springs and retainers cause I blew it up. If someone wants it pay the shipping and it's yours. I could rebuild it but I'm not going to be using it and the cost of replacing the busted parts is close to $200 and that's about what it's worth used except it will have new parts. And if your not sure on how to put it together I could rebuild it for you at your cost for the new parts plus the shipping
