Who can you trust?

Not sure how far you’d travel, but I heard good things about Precision Transmission in Amarillo TX (I’m guessing a 3-4 hour drive from you). Their videos on YouTube are awesome btw. Check them out, even just to see someone who knows these transmissions.
I've watched a ton of their videos, and that is one of the things that makes me suspect of most rebuilders. Lots of sloppy work (and apparently outright liars/thieves) out there.

Sadly, if what was said in the last couple of months still stands, they don't do carryouts anymore, seems like a lot of people are pretty careless about installation.

I know where you are coming from. I watched all those videos also, plus a bunch more. I settled on a local guy who's shop has been around for a while. I spoke to him and he stated he built the 200's in the past for some GN's but not recently. He did have a core in the shop though and that was a plus. His techs did some research on my install request and got back to me a few days later and that was a good sign also. He is doing a full rebuild and install, my car is there now, hopefully pick it up today. He has a list of upgrades and a guarantee and that makes me a little more comfortable. But I'm also not building a monster car either. I'm sure a stock 200 would work just fine.

How I see vendors who post a new product or service I can do myself:

Hubba, hubba, hubba! Money, money, money! Who do you trust? Me? I'm giving away free money. And where is the Batman? HE'S AT HOME WASHING HIS TIGHTS!

Opportunistic bastards.

Which is why I am gravitating away from anything with a detent or TV cable.

Extreme Automatics or CK Performance... that's it, I would never look at any other shop anywhere since these two shops basically wrote the book on performance TH2004Rs with the turbo Buick community.

I have one from each shop, both excellent transmissions.
Lonnie Dyers will pickup the phone anytime and address issues if need be...

JAMCAR223 knows someone here in North Houston. I don't know if he could provide a core or not. He's done a few 200-4R's for forum members that I know of.

Since your in OK, Look up Phoenix Transmission in Weatherford TX. Quality stuff.

I agree w/the 80e logic others mentioned if you don't already have a 200 4r for building, I was looking for a 80e as I wanted to do it once/right but I picked up a 200-4r to use (just before the lock-down) because they're getting harder to find local/easy. The guy was LS/4l60e swapping his MCSS & selling off his 305/200-4r combo. He had posted the combo on FB marketplace but I don't do FB. A buddy that knew I was looking for an OD trans saw his ad & connected me w/the guy.

Does anyone have any experience with Gearstar Transmissions in Ohio? I have a S/A book on GM overdrive transmissions written by Cliff Ruggles and I think that he builds transmissions as well. I believe his shop is in Ohio .

I build my own, using good books and quality parts. I was initially reluctant on TV controlled overdrives, and had no time to build them. After getting burned by 3 companies with 5 transmissions, in 3 different vehicles, I'll never pay anyone again.

Beyond that, for the 2004r, Lonnie, Janis, both good trusted sources, Dave Husak for a convertor, or even Bison. Though I am currently using a Vigilante.
