Why do old cars make your clothes smell like exhaust?

I thought about buying the strawberry scented fuel additive just for fun for going to a car show but figured for the price I can buy a couple more gallons of race fuel and that is a scent that can truly be appreciated.

By spot on what do you mean?

Around 12.9 at WOT even with an out of the box carb. All that has been changed was a secondary spring. I think at partial throttle cruising it was somewhere in the 14's as well.

By tuning for WOT works great for power, but for a street vehicle you need to tune the three main areas of the engines life. Idle, Cruise, WOT. My guess is your idle setting is off which is why it smells. There also is no "magic" number only a optimal guideline that must be adjusted up or down depending on engine, cam, temp, altitude, gas mixture. It could also be your timing which plays a big role in the burn quality in the cylinders.
Have you pulled your plugs to look at the color?

At idle it shroud be 14.7, at cruise it should be low 15's. Without knowing the idle A/F mixture and cruise mixture it is impossible to guess what it is a cruise. It looks like the secondary rods are too thin. An open carb or an open element draws in less air than a duel snorkel box. Non ethanol gas will give you a richer mix. Why aren't you running the A/G in your car so you can have real time measurements instead of guessing.

Too much for my budget right now. I may be wrong on the exact numbers since we measured them well over a year ago, but I do remember we were impressed with how good they were for an out of the box carb. we used a buddies Innovative motorsports data logger. anyways, my point was that my motor is tuned decently and it still smells. I believe the exhaust smell is having zero emissions equipment.

Everything from resonator to cats to muffler they all remove exhaust smell. So if you have less of them ie cat less system of course your car is going to smell a bit more gassy

Not if it is tuned properly. Catalytic converters are not designed to remove unburned fuel, they convert partial oxides of carbon and nitrogen to complete oxides
