Jegs sends you the wrong stuff.

You order a gm 10067353 flat tappet Mexico motor on ebay for $1000 including freight during a "sale"....

You wait a week, come home from work, and the truck had dropped off an lsx525 pan to intake motor. Right name and order info on the paperwork, wrong part.

Who wants to deal with that?

I don't order often, but I'll give jegs another shot...

And so the LS swap started...

There. That right there is another reason to buy off Summit. They sell less crap, and the things they do sell are not Chinese knock-offs. Counterfeit parts on eBay/Amazon are a huge issue, but if you buy from Summit you know it is coming factory direct.

my first Summit experience....1984, ordered the tunnel ram setup they advertised incessantly in the HotRod/CarCraft magazines.
Got the intake and linkage kit in a few days. 2 and a half MONTHS later, got the carbs. Called every week during the wait, got lots of "they're shipping on XYZ day" answers.

Couple years ago I ordered some LT1 valvesprings from them because Rockauto only had 5. Summit claimed they would ship the next day when i ordered. Bad news the next day...would be 10 days later. 11 days later, I called to cancel (it was a Saturday), was told they would have to check with the vendor to see if the order could be cancelled. They did cancel and refund, but what a hassle.

I have bought stuff from them without problems other times.

I think I have only bought from Jegs maybe twice.

Super Shops....hey, I worked there! 'Bout a million years ago it feels like.....BF Goodrich radial T/As as low as $29.95!

For me, summit's website is just better to navitate and the search results/engine are better. I like the old layout better before the new one, but eh. Also their customer service, in my experience, has always been awesome. I bet I've bought over or damn near $10,000 worth of crap from them over the past couple years, and as long as they keep doing what they're doing, they'll continue with my business. Jegs... I don't have a chevrolet, so I don't really care. Buick specific stuff/speed parts I order from TA, I just use summit for general stuff like engine paint, gasket kits, bearings, etc. Most expensive thing in recent memory I've purchased at one time, I think was my comp 268 cam kit that was in my blue motor two years ago. Oh, free shipping over 100 bucks is a cool thing too. Clear indication of when it ships, reviews are accurate, if you ask a question, it usually gets answered within 24 hours either by them or an informed shopper.

In all, Summit > Jegs.

Well I just got my GMB water pump from summit.

Pump box says 130-1260P Pump in bag says 13-1260.

Pump is Aluminum though.

Also the picture of the pump on Summits site clearly says JAPAN on it.

The pump I received has nothing on the box or pump on where it is made.

YAY more incompetence!!!!!!!

You guys are so spoiled. Computer/smartphone two days shipping plus the big one, the credit card. In the 1960s every town had a speed shop or 3. My local Chevrolet dealership Service and Parts department was open to midnight. They stocked 30/30 and 097 popular F.I. small block camshafts, solid lifters and other factory performance parts, the small blocks had up to 11 to 1 C.R. back then. I'd have my car tore apart, work on it till 10 pm, get cleaned up, go to Martin's Chevrolet get the parts I needed then go to the bar and close it up. The big kicker back then was NO credit cards, most only took Joe Pay Cash. There was a Speed Show that would let you make payments. I bought a Manley camshaft and lifters &valve springs and a Holley carburetor on payments every week. It's was like 5 weeks but it worked for both of us. I use to use Kerr's Speed Shop in nearby Youngstown, OH also. Kerr started Super Shops and I used to like the local one. Everyone was into performance cars so all these businesses were making money. I use both Jegs and Summit, I'm 39 miles from Summit/Tallmadge. Love those credit cards, just make sure you pay them off every month.

Not quite

SS started as San Bernardino Racing Equipment in California by Harry Eberlin

SS succumbed to a rapidly changing marketplace where people were no longer willing to wait an unspecified length of time for items not in stock, as you pointed out in your post. Added factors were rapid over-expansion, poor debt management, and poor pay for store employees. When i started in 1986, the mindset of management was that it was a privilege to work for them.

I learned a lot about many things (automotive and not) there, worked with some great people (and some real d-bags), and got to see some interesting characters come through the place.
