No argument it was a nice simple functional GUI.... Windows though has not and is not an OS (Operating System) it is a GUI (Graphical User Interface). All Microsoft has done since Win 3.x is add more and more layers to the GUI and hide the DOS/NT OS bootstrap

I am not that computer savvy and now you want to complicate even more for me...thanks alot...

Except for this laptop, I get my machines from my buddy Phil. Landphil. Seriously. The desktops are stacked like cordwood on a pallet, and if you know what you are looking for, and are dropping off electronics, batteries or chemicals in the bays next door, you can end up with a reasonably high-end older machine. (Just hafta move faster than the scavenging police...).
Then I go to NewEgg.com and upgrade as needed. Since I don't do video games, a six-year-old machine works just fine with Windows 7. I didn't abandon XP until the bitter end, skipped Win 8 based on the Vista-like reviews.
I'd like to download the free Win10 upgrade without actually installing it over the existing image. I have extra hard drives lying around, so I'll just to a clean install on a wiped drive. I have not had time to fool around with this yet, but I bought every Win 7 license I use OEM - Pro, so I'm pretty sure the keys should work. If anyone want to follow this path, here's how it can work - have not tried it yet.

I have done the same thing for my machines, and may do the same for the upgrade.
